These bolts are being used for a new transmission pan. This will help to maintain any warranty work needing to be done if nessasery. What I mean is the dealer won't have to be fumbling around looking for hex wrenches. They would probably say, OH we can't service this, it's got Allen cap screws.

This past summer I bought a used John Deere X590 tractor with snowblower. The first time I used it I snapped one of the shear pins. I tried to get new ones, and ordered some that were listed as John Deere parts. They were too short, and were just regular metric grade 8.8 M6 bolts. I had longer M8 grade 8.8 bolts on hand, so I used those, but they keep snapping, too.Digging deep into the John Deere online parts catalog (don't ask how bad that site is) I learned that the "real" John Deere "shear" pins are really M6x45 Grade 10.9 partially treaded bolts. These are exactly as Deere specified them, and this whole package cost about what one or two bolts cost from the Deere dealer (who's almost an hour away). They have been working great so far - you should promote these as shear pins for the Deere 47" snowblower!
