Product Reviewed: M8-1.25 x 20mm Threaded Insert for Wood Furniture Screw in Nut Threaded Wood Inserts Bolt Fastener Connector, Zinc Plated Carbon Steel, 50 PCS (with Hex Spanner) – for $13TL;DR; Very nice steel insert; 8mm Hex Driver RequiredNice looking 8mm steel inserts. I’m more used to the zinc die cast versions of these. Having steel ones is a nice especially from frequently assembled parts. The wood threads are sharp and well defined. They have what I’d call a passivated zinc finish on them that looks like iriditing. The hex drive on these is 8mm. I didn’t test drive this particular one but the larger 3/8” version of these. I’d suggest starting with 10-11mm hole or 7/16” depending on material.5 Stars nice product and good to very good value. How I review:Reviews start with 5 stars and I subtract points.- 0 for value but I try to provide guidance-0.5 to -3 for product not matching description e.g. stainless steel is actually plated steel-0.5 to -3 for product missing badly on executionI select products carefully so low (1-3 scores) are rare but detailed comments and critiques almost always are in the review. Most of my reviews come out 4-5 range. If possible I dismantle or destroy items to examine inner workings.

These threaded inserts work in wood as expected. They provide a good connection into wood that can be disassembled and reassembled numerous times without any problem. They are especially useful in wood products such as MDF than do not hold screws well. No surprises for this item. These inserts are well made and perform as they should.

These threaded inserts allow a M8-1.25 screw or bolt to be used on wood and allow those screws to be removed and reinstalled repeatedly. In mounting a heater bracket to a workbench, I found the inserts accepted a reasonable amount of torque to clamp the bracket firmly in place. The inserts come with a hex wrench, although a 5/16” hex socket works. Not having a 10 mm drill bit on hand, I used a 25/64” bit to install the inserts. With a little care in alignment, they went right in.Full disclosure: I ordered these M8-1.25 x 25mm Threaded Inserts for Wood through the Amazon Vine program. As a user of the product, I have done my best to provide an honest review.

I primarily use Threaded Inserts for woodworking however, they can be used almost anywhere that the material being fastened is not strong enough to hold the joint. Threaded inserts are most often used to reinforce threads in softer woods or composites or, when the connection is small compared to the weight of the object being connected. For example, you can build a table with sturdy legs that won’t wobble under use if you have enough surface area to make a solid connection however, if the legs are slender, curved or you are connecting with to end-grain, the wood may not hold solid under use. By adding a metal insert with threads, it provides a more durable and reliable threading for screws or bolts.A second benefit is using threaded inserts when refinishing/restoring furniture where the wood has decayed or damaged. When threads in the workpiece become worn out or damaged, threaded inserts can be used to repair the joinery instead of replacing the entire component. They also save time and money on a project.A third benefit on using threaded inserts is that the piece you are building (table, shelves, chest, etc.) can be disassembled so that it can be moved.I found these threaded inserts to be of good quality and a good price. An 8mm insert is a fairly large insert for most projects unless it is something like bookshelves or a dinner table. The bolt that fits these inserts is a M8 x 1.25mm (coarse) thread (not included) which can be found in varying lengths at your local hardware store. An 8mm x 1.0mm thread (fine) will NOT fit in these inserts. I also ordered these as they were Metric although, unless you are matching an existing size, it matters little whether the threaded insert in SAE or Metric. Many of the multiple piece threaded insert “kits” you purchase have the correct drill bit and hex key wrench included which increase the price. I generally don’t need the drill bit, just the inserts.Note that these inserts do come with a hex key wrench in case you don’t have the correct size.I used a 10mm bit on hardwood (maple) and a 9.5mm bit on soft woods (pine).Manufacturers Note: An improvement from the manufacturer would be to include the recommended drill bit size in the box. Many people may not have the right tools (calipers) to measure the inserts and drill bits correctly resulting in a hole too large or to small which will cause the joint being held by the insert to fail. This is not the fault of the insert rather the fault of the installer, but in any case, will shed an unfavorable light on the product unfairly.Note: the box I received was marked as “Flanged Locknuts” which these are not however, the size of the threaded insert was correct. In summary, a good product at a good price and a repeat for me.Reviewers Note: I ordered and review both the SAE and Metric versions as there are some people who only work in one or the other and might miss out on a good, economical product due. There is also a difference in the drill bits used to bore the correct size when working in hard and exotic woods.

These work great. I use these all the time for my projects and I am very happy with this package. The threads bite into the wood nicely and stay in place.
