Before I found this product I would use the normal fire starters like tumble weeds with a chimney.A friend told me about this product and I ordered it immediately. It takes a few seconds to get going but still much faster than using a chimney to get the fire started.I use a kamado grill, so this allows me to light as little or as much of the charcoal as I need depending on what I’m cooking. With this I have saved time on start up, and even though it’s minimal m, I have also saved money on buying the normal fire starters. I bbq and grill a lot so it adds up over time.I would buy this again and so far I have had it a few months and has worked perfectly every time!

We use our wood burner occasionally and have a cold chimney which causes a down draught. And a poor smoky start to the fire. A blast of the looft air lighter up the chimney, followed by ignition of the fire itself makes fire starting easy. The lighter does get very hot so take care where it’s put down.

Cable should be two metres long - it’s just too short as is

I know people rant and rave about how great this thing is and I see where they’re coming from but there are better options available. If you need to light up a bunch of charcoal use a chimney. It’s just better. If you want to light a little spot in the middle, than oil on a paper towel is gonna do you a better job. This product is just overkill for the most part only really useful if you are strategically lighting small areas.

This worked really well at lighting my grill over the weekend. But I don't readily have an outdoor outlet close to the grill. It made me a littler nervous to light my grill in the garage and then drag it over to my patio. Because of that, I probably won't use the lighter very often. But that's an issue of my own house, and not the lighter. The lighter did a good job but logistically it's just not for me.

No more lighter fluid smell or taste. This is a powerful starter that works very well. Simply place against brickets and let it blow. Within 15 seconds the charcoal is red. Now pull back and let the blower continue to ignite. Simple and no more petroleum taste.

This fire starter was certainly a little larger than I imagined. I tested it on my parents' open fire, which had already been laid with newspaper, kindling & logs - pointed at the paper, the fire burst into life, which was quite surprising! They have a plug socket close to the fireplace, and this just reached the grate, so its usefulness is likely to rely heavily on your extension lead, or you need your fire/BBQ within a couple of feet of your socket. This is something of a drawback of its design, as many people site a BBQ a little distance from the house to contain any fires and prevent smoke entering through windows, and even with this plugged into an extension at your feet, you don't have much lead length to play with if you're standing at a BBQ.To be perfectly honest, it feels like this is solving a problem I didn't have. I light bonfires occasionally at the bottom of the garden, but I've never had any problem lighting them, so I wouldn't get a long extension out (and put it away again) to use this when a lighter/match does the job fine. I don't generally BBQ, so I'm aware that I may not be the target audience, and if you do find it difficult to start a BBQ and/or you cook outside a lot, it might be just the ticket - so I'm rating it on the basis of how well it does what it's designed to do - which it does well, but it is bulky and could do with a longer lead.

This charcoal starter is a different type of contraption but what can I say. It does work so long as you don't mind running an extension cord to power it.
