The Rutland fire starters were the third brand that I have tried. They are the easiest to light, last the longest, and seem to be the hotest. On top of all that, they have the best price point.

The Rutland Safe Lite Fire Starter Squares have made lighting fires much simpler and more efficient. I've used them for fireplaces, BBQs, and campfires, and they've performed reliably every time. The squares ignite quickly and burn longer than I expected, making it easy to get a good fire going without the usual hassle. One of the standout features is the convenience of having 144 squares in one package. I appreciate not having to worry about running out anytime soon. The fact that they work well in various weather conditions is a huge plus, especially for outdoor use.The only minor issue I've encountered is that they can leave a slight residue, but it's minimal and doesn't affect the overall performance. For anyone who enjoys outdoor activities or simply needs an efficient way to start fires at home, these fire starter squares are a great investment. Their quick ignition and long burn time make them an essential tool for any DIYer or fire enthusiast. :D

These are awesome. Before we got these I was making a fire the old fashioned way with newspaper and kindling. Sometimes the fire would take, and sometimes I'd have to readjust it and try again. These get the fire going every time with no kindling and minimal effort. I just put in some paper, and pop two of these in between the wood pieces and the fire is good to go.

This is the best stuff out there to get our woodstove going. It starts so easy. We've tried other brands and products but this is the best. My husband can light anything but I have a hard time getting a fire started when he's not home, until now! I love this stuff!

Like a Hershey Bar in the way you break off small "bars" from the non-Almond type. I normally use two small "bars" taken from the main plug, set up the fire, light them (they light easily with just a few moments of flame concentrated on them), but nicely and, importantly, for a pretty long time, quite long enough to catch everything you're using for starting the fire, and you're off to the races. I'd say it's a bit pricy but I keep my fires burning all the time in the winter so once they're started I rarely have to start from scratch, meaning a single box could easily last me one or two winters. Seems well worth the money and removes 90% of the headache of starting a fire the "old fashioned" way.

Doesn't smell, a box will last me a year, the last piece will light as easily as the first. Just ordered my third box.

But I never did receive this specific order, but they did refund me. But saying that, I have used before and have been really happy with it, have used for several years.

Love this stuff. Cheap and often I only need one piece to get my fire going. Really burns good for about 7 minutes! I have never tried them wet but they work great out of the box and they are cheap!

I like the Weber 7417 Lighter Cubes. They are inexpensive and work very well. I've never had a fire not start. So what do I do? I try something else. This started because I ran out of the Weber lighter cubes and I had to buy something at my grocery store. Those things were pieces of wood coated with wax. They were too long and very difficult to break in half. I've had a few times where the wood didn't stay lit. No fire! They were very hard to light. Thick pieces took almost 30 seconds to light. Ease of use is important, as is reliability. I can grill three to five or more times a week all summer long. Longer cooks might have me lighting additional coals once per hour. I can go through a lot of these lighters. I light charcoal briquettes in a charcoal chimney.I mention all that because the Rutland fire starter squares seem to work as well as the Weber lighter cubes. The Rutland squares have a consistancy of soggy, waxy, hardboard (compressed fiberboard). The squares are not wet or soft but they can be easily broken along the score lines by hand. They light easily and so far seem to stay lit. The question would be if they stay lit better than the Weber cubes in a wind. My take is that the Weber cubes burn hotter/faster and the Rutland squares burn longer. No chemical smells, burns clean. With prices current with this review, a Rutland square is about 3/4 the cost of a Weber cube. Cost isn't a big factor unless it costs more than the cube. Why pay more if you can just have the cube.Update: Square vs Cube

Makes lighting my fireplace easy. No more splitting kindling and using newspaper. One small cube will usually do it. One box should last the whole season.

Please see user PixI bought this product because I wanted a fast way to start a log fire in my fireplace. I was tired of using newspaper to light up my fire logs and those "anytime log" can be expensive. The bottom line is that this product works and I am very satisfied. However, I gave it a 4 star due to the Pros and Cons and I am listing below (in no particular order).Pros:-Affordable when compared to different fire starter methods-Individual Pieces are breakable. You only use what you need.-Plenty of material There are a total of 144 squares. there are 12 brick. Each brick has 6 squares by 2 squares piecesCons.-Packaging Material can be better. Since this item will last you for several months, it should come in a plastic or metal box. instead it came with a thin paper box. it will fall apart after a few uses-Each square is thin. it is about .33 inches thick-Each Square will only last 2-3 minutesIn Summary this product is exactly what I wanted. It works and is affordable. Due to the fast burn time, I usually use 2 squares and this is more than enough to get a fire started on my firewood. Also it helps to stack your firewood in a manner that you will promote a "chimney effect" so that air can be rushed/drawn from the bottom to the top of the firelogs. I put the squares on the bottom of the fireplace and stacked my firewood like a pyramid.I hope this helps
