I got this thing as a sort of emergency when the electronic compressor relay got stuck closed on my wall AC unit. The fan would turn off but the compressor would keep running by itself. It was BLAZING HOT (115 F.) every day and I didn't want to deal with the down time of fixing it correctly at that time. So, I got this quick fix to get through summer. It works . . . sort of. But it's not a set it and forget it device. This thing has a very wide temperature variance of around 6 deg. F at times sometimes less. Very quirky. It's all over the place. The readings on the dial don't mean much. Have to constantly fine tune it through the day. I do this by positioning another thermometer about 15 feet away as a reference. It worked for me in an emergency but I wouldn't rely on it for anything sensitive unless you are always in the room with it.
