Using it on a longer working distance set up for watchmaking and it providing a good amount of straight on light. i do have other side lights as well to help reduce shadows but i'm pretty pleased with it.

I like this ring light. It's quite versatile (many levels of both white and brown lights) --- but using the single buttons-switch to switch takes some getting used to. Pressing briefly turns on/off, a slightly longer press (but not too long) switches between white, brown, and dual. Left right increase/decrease intensity. It's USB chargeable, which is nice. The whole thing is light (plastic), but the screw are metal. I wouldn't want to use these on a a camera macro lens or anything that could get scratched. It also has a limited range of widths it fits. I had hoped to use it in lieu of my ordinary camera ring light (which only triggers as a flash), but don't think it will work for that. This said, it's quite bright and I can use it just fine with pocket microscopes and their ilk.
