While we realize there usually should not be any concern about excessive radiation around your home I did find a way to test this device as I remembered smoke detectors use a very tiny amount of radioactive material as part of how it detects smoke and when I put the meter near a smoke detector the reading went up to about .30 from what seems to be a normal background radiation reading that ranged from about .06 to .13 so that showed me it does work.This might also be good for those who work in the medical field around where X-rays are done so as to be sure no excessive radiation is getting in areas it should not.

I’ve always wanted a Geiger counter. This seems to work well. I walked around my house to test things. I like the fact that it comes with a rechargeable battery.

This seems to work, I'll be honest I got this just because I have always wanted a Geiger counter since I was a kid, unfortunately I don't have any material to test it's capability or reliability with, but it turns on and displays the values I would expect for background radiation.

I got this Geiger counter mostly to appease my curiosity about radiation levels in various places. I cannot test its accuracy but I have little reason to doubt that it would warn me if I was near something that was radioactive enough to be immediately dangerous. I hope to never need it for that reason but it's always good to be prepared.It comes with a lanyard, which I found quite difficult to get the string through the tiny gap so I just didn't bother. It also comes with a "bracket" which appears to be a completely useless separate piece of plastic you can lean it against just to watch it immediately fall. I thought it would attach to the back in some way but no. Even if you put the bracket against something solid it also falls sideways easily because it's too skinny and the counter will just immediately slide forward anyway. Maybe it would work if you glued it on.The biggest immediate issue with it is that you can't turn the screen off, which causes unnecessary drain to the battery. The battery being rechargeable is both a good thing and a bad thing. You don't have to buy new batteries but imagine 10 years from now you actually desperately need this thing and the battery has gone bad.
