Switched out some incandescent bulbs in our curio cabinet for LEDs, but they were too bright. Since the bulbs are dimmable, we bought this to try. It’s very easy to setup. We plugged it in between the outlet and the plug for the lights, adjusted the dimmer switch, and voila… the light is even dimmer than the original 15W incandescent bulbs. We keep the lights on 24/7, so that’s why we wanted low light (like a nightlight). The slider is easy to move and can be moved in quite small increments for very subtle changes within the huge range (full wattage to off, basically). I didn’t notice any flickering while testing the dimmer switch (I imagine this has more to do with the bulbs). We’re very happy with our purchase.

I use it to control the brightness of two desktop articulated flood lamps that I've equipped with dimmable LED "flood" style bulbs. When the dimmer is set at very low levels, the bulbs will not turn on when powered on by a central on/off switch, but this is a minor problem in my usage scenario. This is a typical problem with dimmers and dimmable LED bulbs since a 100W incandescent equivalent is only drawing ~12Watts. The best LED compatible dimmers have a mode switch that enables them to act through their full mechanical range with a low wattage load - this dimmer control does not have that switch, but in my scenario it still works well enough. Ordinarily I want the dimmer set low so that the light is soothing, but then when I need excellent light for whatever project, I can then boost those lights to full power. In my scenario, with ~20W load, the functional mechanical range of the dimmer control is about 3/4 of the full range. With a significantly lower load LED bulb, the functional mechanical range of the dimmer control may be significantly smaller. Leviton does produce wall dimmers that have a mode switch to deal with this issue of LEDs having much lower loads.

We purchased this to connect to the lights on our Christmas tree and dim them, and it worked as expected. However, it produces a noticeable electrical hum. This isn’t a problem if it’s used in a tucked-away spot, but if it were placed on an end table or near where you’re sitting, the noise could be quite bothersome. Overall, it’s functional but something to keep in mind depending on your setup.

Solid feel. Has some weight to it and rubber pads underneath so it doesn't fall off easily. Worked with tungsten and led. One end of the slider is a full-off position, and you get haptic feedback when you go from minimum intensity to OFF (it sort of "clicks" to the off position).Cons:- I'm taking a star off because the plug is directly at the wall plate, so it is difficult to keep furniture flush against the wall. Having the flexibility of a few inches of cord between the outlet and the connector would have been nice. Consider getting a power bar, or a small extension.- There is no light indicator on it when it's dark, so it's harder to find in the dark.- The slider is low-profile, which makes it challenging to activate with your feet.
