20-Amp SmartlockPro Self-Test GFCI Testing a GFCI is a good way to verify that it is providing protection. While all GFCIs should be tested monthly, users often forget to conduct this test on a regular basis. Now there is a technology available that can supplement the manual testing and regularly conduct an automatic test of the circuit. In June of 2015 there was a revision to the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) standard 943 for Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupters that improves safety for the end-user by requiring GFCI manufacturers to integrate an auto-monitoring (self-test) feature that performs a periodic test to confirm that the GFCI can respond to a ground-fault and, if not, it must visually and/or audibly indicate to the user that it needs to be replaced.

If you are like me planning to just replace the old one with new one, and then wondering why the green light is on, but there is no power coming out...Well, becauase the Load and Line are reversed in these GFCI plugs. You simply cannot swap old with new, but you need to reverse the white and black (on the same side) wires. You can check the steps in utube, search for "D9bEuOzFjVk"

Not much to review, Good price, and they work as expected.Being the thinner units they allow more room in old work boxes. Exactly what was needed there. All good!

I learned the hard way that GFCI devices are a bit more sophisticated than they used to be. These devices have basically a small computer inside. It's a safety device. I bought some super cheap versions that did bot work properly. The Leviton GFCI receptacles are only marginally more expensive. These GFCI receptacles work and do their job. Period. Lesson learned.
