After my divorce, I had the opportunity to select and purchase my first set of "good" china (my ex thought it was a waste of money). I selected this pattern in 1999 and purchased 8 place settings. Over the years, I've lost a few pieces, so I purchased another place setting to replace the pieces I've lost.This design is very classy but not "overly so." It's mostly neutral -- gray, tan, gold, beige -- with just a bit of cobalt blue (the "gems" in the design). It's very durable (mine has been used countless times for dinner parties), and washes nicely in the dishwasher (no extra heat; gentle "china" cycle; hand dry).I also have all the serving pieces except the tea pot. I know younger folks these days don't really want this kind of thing, but I'm hoping I'll find a good home for it eventually. It's such a nice pattern and so versatile -- can work with modern as well as more traditional styles.

I bought these plates plus the more decorative salad plates, and they are really stunning. The price here on Amazon was by far the lowest I could find anywhere on the internet, but I had to order the bowls elsewhere because oddly the bowls were a bit pricey here.The plates are nice and heavy and don't feel fragile, yet the porcelain is still translucent as it should be. I was amazed that everything arrived intact, but they were packed nice and tight with lots of padding.
