I never realised there was a real problem with the original parts for the Nikon 70 - 200 F 2.8 lens foot. I read a few reviews on here and also on other parts of the Internet that said there was an ongoing problem with these parts dropping off and until searching for a replacement part I assumed I was the only one to have lost one of these. I don’t know where it fell off, I just pick the lens up one day and it had gone. I’m just glad it didn’t detach itself when I was holding it or mounting it on a Tripod or monopod because I would not have been a happy man. It’s great quality and longer than the original part which is also a bonus to me, when not on a monopod etcI like many sit low down on a stool at footy matches, as it sits nicely in the palm of my hand allowing just my fingers to rotate the zoom, and being longer it prevents me accidentally touching the focus ring when using AF Continuous. The best bit? It screws onto the camera ring so no chance of losing this one the same way as before. Infact if I had known the problem with the original part I would certainly have bought this part to replace it. Funny isn’t it but I’m now happy the original part dropped off.So if you do have this Nikon 70 - 200 f2.8 take the Nikon part off and bin it before it costs you in repair bills.Cheers Quinny

THis foot is not coming off nor will it let the lens separate from the foot unexpectedly like the last one did.

This is a fantastic solution to the existing Nikon 78-200 f2.8 FL ED VR lens foot for which you have to separately attach an arca-swiss quick release plate (or another propriety quick release plate) in order to attach it to the tripod head clamp. When I saw this, I was thrilled as it meant I no longer had to muck around with a quick release plate for the lens foot at all and could attach it directly to the tripod head clamp. The quality of the lens foot is fantastic and the arca rails extends along the full length of the foot; it fits the lens perfectly so you can slide it back and forward to fine tune the balance.. There is only one quirk with it (for those using a three-way proprietary Manfrotto non-Arca-Swiss head), but given what I was using, actually resolved another quirky issue I was dealing with previously.I have a Manfrotto 3-way tripod head that of course requires their proprietary quick release plate (which is not directly compatible with Arca-swiss). I had previously purchased a fantastic Hoage arca Swiss plate adapter to deal with it (also available on Amazon) that worked perfectly with one quirk of its own: because of the Hoage adapter plate clamp design, it causes the camera to be attached 90-degrees to the tripod head, meaning that it reverses lever functioning (which was a bit annoying, but still worked great). But because of the built in arca-swiss rails on the lens foot, it had the immediate affect of flipping the camera back around 90-degrees returning the proper functioning of my 3-way tripod head levers. I LOVE it! The quality of the foot is EXCELLENT and I have no concerns whatsoever about the longevity of the foot, nor about the foot potentially loosening up with time. As mentioned, it allows you to slide the lens forward and back along the rails to find the perfect balance when you use different camera bodies that may weigh more or less than the one you're currently using. The original Nikon foot now rests comfortably back in the box should I ever need it again (which I doubt at this point as I’m already spoiled now and won’t go back). This Leftfoto foot actually feels a little higher in quality than the manufacturer foot AND it’s far less expensive than a Nikon replacement foot not to mention the foot is slightly wider.I ABSOLUTELY recommend this lens foot as a replacement to the Nikon lens foot! It is strong, stable, reliable, and the rails deep enough I don’t have to worry whether or not the width of the Arca-Swiss clamp fully engages (IT DOES). I don’t worry whatsoever if it might pull out of the clamp, and considering the cost (and combined overall weight) of the professional gear it supports, that’s saying something! You will not regret it! Bravo, Leftfoto!!!

AMAZON VINE Review: LEFTFOTO LENS FOOT TRIPOD MOUNT - ARCA SWISS STYLELong telephoto lenses are heavy, unwieldy, hard to manage in close quarters, and EXPENSIVE. They are also remarkable optical instruments and indispensable for portrait, sport, wildlife, and landscape photographers. One of the most celebrated of these lenses is the NIKKOR Z 70-200 f2.8 VR-S lens. It has a constant f2.8 aperture at all focal lengths, vibration reduction (VR) of 5+ stops, fluorine lens coatings and a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) managing the precise autofocus on the latest iteration of this venerable lens. This version uses the new mirrorless Z-Mount that is wider and deeper in the camera body with more room for electronics than the last edition made for Nikon DSLR cameras. We have both in our studio lens vault and still use ALL of our DSLR cameras and lenses when they are right for the job. But both versions HAD the Nikon lens foot until we saw this one from LEFTFOTO.This review of the LEFTFOTO LENS FOOT suggests that you replace the lens foot that Nikon supplies on their long lenses. The purpose of the lens foot is to support the weight of the lens (and Camera) when they are mounted on a tripod or monopod. Without the presence of a lens foot the ENTIRE WEIGHT of the lens would be borne by the camera’s mount (the interface mechanism where the lens is attached to the camera). Modern lens mounts are well-designed and are sturdy enough for smaller lenses, but beyond 150 mm lenses get heavy…really heavy. The Z 70-200 f2.8 we are discussing weighs THREE POUNDS. That does not sound so terrible UNTIL you support it with your forward hand through a 40-minute model portfolio session. The 600 mm f4 weighs THIRTEEN POUNDS and is almost 30 inches long. Imagine hanging THAT off of the lens mount on ANY camera. We also need to consider that most modern cameras have a METAL lens mount embedded in a PLASTIC camera body. So, we support our camera AND lens on a tripod using the lens foot as the contact point for our tripod’s ARCA-SWISS locking mechanism…except Nikon’s lens foot is NOT built to the ARCA-SWISS standard. They DO NOT FIT the ARCA-SWISS heads on our tripods. The ARCA-SWISS tripod mount was introduced in the 1950’s and quickly became the industry standard. It is a simple two-part system with a base plate that attaches with a ¼ 20 screw inserted into the threads on the bottom of the camera and a locking clamp on the head attached to the tripod base.Once seated in the clamp and tightened the camera is as secure as the plate and clamp can make it. Lighter tripods are less steady than heavier tripods and ANY tripod weighed down with gear bags or sandbags is safer and steadier than bare tripods. It is trial and error as long as you remember that the camera, lens, flash unit or flash trigger represent upwards of $10,000 or more, sitting precariously on top of that tripod. Tripods DO fall and cameras and lenses DO die, even in the confines of a studio. And once you go on location “in the weather,” well, equipment insurance is a really good idea.As stated earlier, the ARCA-SWISS standard has been in place for 75 years. Photographers trust it and manufacturers build their tripod heads TO the standard. It all seems simple except the lens foot NIKON includes with this $2700.00 NIKKOR Z lens is NOT ARCA-SWISS compatible. It is too narrow to work with ARCA clamps. (See the Attached Pictures). It has been this way for decades and photographers have been asking NIKON to update their foot, but it has not changed. To be fair, the Nikon foot DOES work. You can securely attach it to a tripod head using a ¼ 20 screw, but you must ATTACH and REMOVE the screw each time you use a tripod. Most studio photographers (us included) have an ARCA-SWISS clamp always attached to the base of every camera we use. You can see samples of the clamp base in the attached pictures.ARCA clamps are EZY-ON EZY-OFF and cameras are quickly cycled on and off the tripod. One hand on the camera and one on the clamp wheel. It only takes a second and it is SECURE as soon as the wheel is tightened. The Nikon foot is “sloppy” tightened into an ARCA clamp. It is neither stable nor secure and this LEFTFOTO foot is the solution. When I saw this LEFTFOTO ARCA-STYLE foot available at AMAZON I ordered it immediately. This model (RF-N 720) is built to fit the 70-200 Z lens perfectly and works as expected with every tripod head in the studio. We have different tripod heads to do different tasks. Recording video requires a fluid video head that is different than a portrait-style ball head, but they are ALL ARCA-SWISS in the mounting clamp. The LEFTFOTO manages the task perfectly and provides more contact area, more stability, better retention, and offers us the peace of mind associated with the ARCA-SWISS mount. The attached pictures show the difference between the Nikon foot (that actually costs MORE than the LEFTFOTO to replace) and this perfect replacement foot with its attachment hardware. The LEFTFOTO lens foot is permanently mounted on the Z 70-200 f2.8 VR-S lens. As an added bonus, we can sell the used Nikon lens foot for MORE than the cost of the LEFTFOTO ARCA-compatible replacement! This big, sturdy, well-made ARCA-SWISS compatible replacement lens foot is $19.99 at AMAZON (July 2024). It includes mounting hardware and the Allyn Wrenches you need to set your new lens foot up to work with ARCA mounts. You will appreciate the new mount the first time you dial it in to the ARCA-SWISS head on your tripod. For us, the LEFTFOTO LENS FOOT TRIPOD MOUNT - ARCA SWISS STYLE is a FIVE STAR Upgrade!Five Stars! for Added Stability, Secure Mounts, ARCA size fits EVERYTHING, and a QR-hole for a safety sling, too! Thanks, AMAZON!Mark in North Carolina
