The good:The bulb is bright and illuminated the pool wellThe bad:The bulb lasted less than 10 hours of total usage. We don't use the pool light much, but when we recently turned it on- it flickered and then died. I can't recommend a bulb that dies so quickly with extremely low usage.

I made a mistake with the gasket when I installed this light and everything got wet causing the GFI to trip. I assumed I ruined it but after drying it out and fixing my error it's working just fine. All I would add is that this is a very 'cold' light. It's very bright and blue. In my yard there is now a sharp contrast between the pool and the landscape lighting that is very warm and more on a golden scale. Everybody around me (family, neighbor) just loves the look. I'm still getting used to it but remain willing to recommend the product. Enjoy!

First, this bulb is bright. Our pool is a 33x15 foot rectangle with over 30,000 gallons of water (backyard diving pool). The bulb produces an almost uniform color over the whole surface area and easily reaches the opposite end 33 feet away and the bottom (8 feet).Second, the bulb is small, about the same size as the classic 500w incandescent flood light bulb we pulled out. This is important if you have an old 8 inch style Sta-Rite (Swimquip) fixture. The more modern 10 inch fixtures can handle the wide diameter LED lights, but my 1969 fixture was too small for them.Third, the blue color is great. White seemed too sterile and I couldn't imagine turning my pool into a light show with a multi-color bulb. I suspect the richness of the blue depends on the paint color of your pool (ours is white) and amount of water (ours is 30,000+ gallons). Even in our case it is still a rich blue.Fourth, this is definitely a DIY install, but don't forget to buy a new gasket at the same time. Once you remove the fixture's lens, you are stuck leaving the fixture out of the water until you have a new gasket. Maybe a recently installed gasket can be reused, but mine turned to dust when I opened up the housing.

My pool guy questioned what I was doing, ordered light and was skeptical after ready bad reviews. I took a chance to do this my self. Also ordered seal.. glad I did. The old light was in the pool for 19 years. Watch a simple video. Was easy. Pool guy wanted to charge me 100.00 to do it. Took me 10 min and light works great. I'll follow up if it dies in the next few years! So far great!

What a great addition to the pool!I originally built my pool with a regular light before spending a small fortune on an LED light. The problem with the LED fixtures is when they die, the whole fixture dies and it's another small fortune to replace it.So, I went back to a traditional fixture and this bulb and couldn't be happier! The bulb is a great value and if it should die at some point in the future, I won't cry if I have to replace it.The color is great and as others have stated, it's pretty bright, you would have to have a very large pool for this not to do the trick.I've had a couple of friends switch to this as well after seeing mine and everyone is happyGreat addition and a great deal!

When our incandescent 500W pool lightbulb burned out, I wanted something more energy efficient and theoretically longer-lasting. I didn't see the point in paying nearly twice as much for a color-changing LED bulb compared to a monochrome white LED bulb, so I bought this one. I installed it in our Hayward Astrolite model SP-583-SL fixture. (Be sure to replace the gasket with a new one and understand exactly how to seal the housing to keep water out, or you will ruin your new expensive bulb. There are some excellent YouTube videos that help with this.)The only real gripe I have is that the metal screw-in base can easily come loose from the bulb while tightening it. This happened to me, and I wasn't applying that much pressure when screwing in the bulb. Fortunately, the hot wire didn't break off the center terminal of the base and the bare neutral wire simply fits into a groove between the base and the plastic housing so I was able to just press the base back on. I then just screwed it in barely tight enough to make contact with the socket terminal. (If this doesn't make sense, just remember: do NOT over-tighten the bulb!) In my opinion, the base should have been attached to the plastic housing in a more secure manner. It looks like it was just glued onto the base.Aside from that, I'm very please with the way my pool looks with the light turned on at night. It gives off plenty of natural white light. The bulb does take about a second to turn on after you flip the switch, so don't panic about that.I will update this review if the bulb stops working prematurely. Overall, I'm very pleased with it so far.
