I purchased this Dora Leap Pad game for my 6 year old son for a little over £5 from Amazon and felt it was really good value, especially considering that on Leap Frogs website they charge around £15-£20 for the game in app form. Specifically I got the game as I have been working to encourage my son to want to learn Spanish as I grew up myself speaking it. In the game you get calls from children around the world calling to ask Dora for help as Swiper has come to their country to steal an item of importance. The Map tells you how to get there - citing well known landmarks in that country. You then point out where these locations are on the map (much like how the tv show is done). Very much like the tv show in so many ways, avoiding obstacles down a river, answering questions to build things etc. If your child likes Dora they will love this game as it is so similar to the show. Also I am impressed with the locations chosen to learn about there is a great level of variety and shows just how different the world is in culture and in look, weather etc. Felt for a little over £5 it was excellent! My son is enjoying it and spontaneously told me about the river nile the other day - so he must be learning (but we'll keep that a secret!)

My niece and nephew are both under 5. On occasion, I am tasked with watching them. “On occasion” has become more frequent than I would otherwise want, but…family… Anyway, I live in an upstairs apartment, and also have a neighbor next door. Kids stomp. They scream to talk. Sometimes, for no known reason, they break into song and/or dance. Because their parents are worthless, they also idolize John Cena, and do their best to mimic WWE style wrestling if not constantly under a watchful eye. Discipline is not an option (see ‘parents’ and ‘worthless’ cited above. Also, ‘time out’ is not discipline, see below), and therefore, distraction is key for these visits. After my DVR managed to fill itself with Dora, Wonder Pets, and all that ilk, I decided it was time to look for other options. Given their obsession with walking off with my phone, and touching everything that has buttons, LeapPad seemed reasonable.LeapPad 2 and a half dozen games became Xmas presents. The LeapPad is nearly indestructible. When the kiddos “set it down” on my solid oak coffee table, the LeapPad is unscathed, which cannot be said about the wood (distressed wood is in, right?). The thread that keeps the stylus attached must be some carbon fiber, spider web hybrid- it can withstand swinging, chewing, etc. My only complaint about the Pad is that it goes through batteries faster than a puppy can decimate your girlfriend’s shoe closet. As for the games themselves, I have no complaints. The kids appear to enjoy them, and it keeps my DVR from teaching me little kid Spanish, my dog from being harassed, my neighbors from burning wicker me in effigy, and crayon off my walls. The fact that they may actually be learning something from the games is a happy secondary effect to their distraction. When they get sick of these, I’ll buy more, because I’ve learned that you can’t put a price on silence, or the ability to simply step out of a room to use the bathroom. On a side note, parents- discipline your kids, or give permission for someone else to do it. America is the culmination of thousands of years of human education and experience, and at this rate, it’ll be flushed in 2 generations because no one knows how to say “no” anymore, and there aren’t consequences for bad behavior. Time out is not discipline. Ostracizing children to a designated area and limiting their movement does not deter them from prison, it prepares them for it.

Love how this game takes you from one city to another within a country and then onto another country. Simple tasks (like gathering up a protective eye glass to better protect yourself from the dust storms of the sahara!) must be done to move onto the next level. So enjoyable I like playing this game with my little one! :)

My Daughter got this game along with the Leapster GS for her 5th birthday. She has only really played simple games on my phone and pc before having this but shes had no problems picking up how to play and has needed very little help from me.The game plays like an interactive version of the tv show which is great! I don't think its too short for the age group its aimed at and it seems to have a lot of replay value for them. I'd say this is a great starter game as an introduction to games consoles that is both fun and educational!

I got Dora for my 4 year old son.. he loved it and played with it non-stop for 7 hrs at a stretch the first day!!! He completed all stages and was doing it over and over. I was a bit concerned and had to kind of snatch it away from his hand and took him out for a swim in the evening. Back from the pool he again got on to it and played for another 4 hrs. With difficulty we put him to sleep at night the first day. Second day he palyed Dora for say 4 hrs. 3rd day may be 2 hours. The cartridge we got from Amazon had a technical glitch and my son was getting very frustrated with it.. In the Peru section when a jumping frog comes the up arrow key & `A' button stops working. After say 15 mins `A' button starts working and Dora can Jump over the frog OR the only option is to start all over again. Later near a shovel, Dora keeps bouncing back from all directions... I see that this problem is reported in other reviews also. I called Leapster customer care and they send a new game cartridge in less than a weeks time. The new cartridge is good. However, before the new one arrived my son had found a way to trick out of the frog problem. He moves Dora to the top before the frog appear and moves Dora forward after the frog passes out of the screen. We got the Leapster Explorer eight months back and added games one by one. Now we have Jewel Train, Mr. Pencil, Penguins of Madagascar, Cars-2, and Dora. He plays with Leapster Explorer for say 1-2 hrs a day and some days he won't even touch the game system. After 2 weeks his obsession with Dora game is over; still this being new he plays it more often. Over all I have observed he spends maximum time on pet-pad. Dora game is different from the other games we have.. It is very pleasant & exciting... fun things a 4 year old likes to do and there is no violence (No crashing, hitting, shooting, explosions etc.). Overall I am satisfied with Dora game. My son has picked up some knowledge about animals, places, etc. a few Spanish words and 1-10 in Spanish.

4 Years old daughter can't drop this game down. Not really a game for her as we like to think of it as additional classes with a computer teacher! Brand new to the world of LeapFrog explorer. Got it for her as a 4th birthday present. Best thing we ever got her. A brand new world of possibilities and skills to develop through those games. Double AA Batteries last about a week. We got rechargeable batteries with a charger, we place them in charger *every night*. Bottom line this game rocks. Thank you LeapFrog. Thank you Dora!

My four year old loves Dora the Explorer and she loves this game. We just got this game a few days ago, so we have not had much time to try it out, but so far it seems like a really good game. The game has clear spoken directions, so that my four year old can play with it without much parental assistance.

I have a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son and they both have the Explorer game system. I purchased this for my daughter and she loves it. I allowed my son to play it and he loved it too. To keep the peace in my home I had to buy another one. They share the other games such as Mr. Pencil but this is one both always want to play at the same time. Normally, I would not have purchased "Dora" for my son but it is geared towards his skill level and he is able to play this without my assistance.
