This is a pretty handy little gadget. I use it mostly for quick identification of transistors. It will not, of course, give you any information about ratings such as maximum voltage and current. But at least you can get a general idea of the type of device and its polarity. The color TFT display is nice and is easy to read. The added functionality for testing lower voltage zener diodes (not available in the earlier model) is a plus.Accessing the menu can be a little awkward. The trick is to get past the "Probing" message and wait until the screen shows "No, Unknown, or Damaged Part." Then, quickly double click the Start button to access the menu. When it appears, single click the Start button to select the function you want. Finally, HOLD the Start button to jump to that function. The IR function is not really as useful as I thought it would be. It is handy for a basic "is it working at all" test, but the hex codes don't really tell you much. The most annoying thing about this unit? Beyond a doubt, the lack of a physical on/off switch! Inevitably, when I grab it for a quick test the battery is dead. Perhaps it's time for a little creative modification. But overall, it's amazing that they can pack so much functionality into a little tester like this one. Would I buy it again? Yes, for sure.
