I live in Missouri which has a high clay content to the soil. That means extra sticky mud and very compact dry soil.I just tried these out for the first time expecting them to be awkward, at best, to walk in. To my surprise, walking on damp soil feels fairly normal with some added resistance going down and slight pull coming up. They did not feel unsafe or like a trip hazard at any time.(Tip: Attach these loosely to your shoes first and then put your shoes on after and cinch down the straps. It works much easier that way.)The condition for testing: I used these about two days after a light snow on a 60 degree day on February so the soil was thawed and damp but not saturated. Results: The tines slide into the soil easily under these conditions. Pulling the tine up and back out varies depending on whether or not you are on grass with a solid root base or plain soil. The tines come out easily when pulling out of a grass root base (even dead winter grass) without much resistance. But, if you are walking on uncovered, sticky mud then these will rapidly become clogged. I expect rock hard dry soil might be a bit of a challenge but those are obviously the wrong conditions for this tool anyway. The Velcro straps held this contraption snuggly to the bottom of my boots. The boots in the picture are a size 7M/9W. The base extends a little past the toe so these will easily fit larger sizes.I was worried these would be kind of gimmicky but I think they’ll actually do a good job of aerating my yard under the right conditions and will use these when mowing.

These work well, but are also a great way to bust an ankle. I would not recommend for the elderly or anyone unsteady on their feet. For everyone else, though - these are a cheap, reasonably easy way to aerate your lawn.

I have an aerator rake, but no longer have the upper body strength to use it, so when I saw these I wanted to see if they would work for me--and they did! When I opened the box, I thought they would be too large for my women's size 8 workman's shoe, but they fit fine, with a bit of room to spare if your foot is larger. With the heavy-duty adjustable velcro straps, they'll probably fit fine if your foot is smaller, too. The plastic base is 1/4" thick and extremely sturdy--it feels like high-end playground equipment. The metal spikes are 2" long if you take them out of the shoe and also very sturdy. Although I loosely strapped my workman shoes onto the aerator shoes inside, I went outside to put them on because I didn't want to scratch up my kitchen floor. Once I got them on and tightened up all the straps, I wondered if I would damage the spikes by walking across my driveway, but they were fine (although the metal hitting the concrete made it sound like I had tap-dancing shoes on.) I walked through a dirt patch to get a photo of the pattern the shoes made, then moved into my garden area thinking it would be warmer than my sod due to the leaf cover. As you can see, the shoes impaled the leaves--but when I walked onto the lawn, the shoes seemed to perform as promised, after I became accustomed to walking in them: the snow-matted grass made it feel like I was walking through sucking-mud at first, but I soon figured out how to walk in them normally and had no problems after that. The shoes were easy to take off after I was done--I just loosened the one strap closest to the heel on each aerator shoe and my own shoes slipped right out. After cleaning out the leaves, the metal spikes looked almost as good as new--no bent or marred ones as yet. In case that happens, there's an included wrench; I pulled off one spike to show what that assembly looks like. All in all, a great new garden tool that will get plenty of use this Spring. I plan to wear them while I walk behind my electric mower to get two tasks accomplished at once. Good times!

I have an area in my lawn that doesn’t grow as well as the rest of the lawn. I’ve tried all the usual things, extra water, check PH, extra fertilizer, etc. but nothing makes a difference. I figured the next step was to aerate. I tried a manual aerator tool, but found that progress was slow and the aerator tubes became quickly clogged with soil. It was time to “put my food down” and try some aerator shoes. The MILLUXXi Lawn Aerator Shoes came in a box along with basic instructions and a small wrench to tighten any spikes, should they become loose. The shoes appear solidly made of thick plastic and the spikes were firmly mounted. I found that the best way to use them was to set a chair on the lawn so I could sit down and put them on without having to walk on hardscape with spikes. They are not labeled as right or left foot, but I found that putting them on with the strap rings facing the inside of each foot would allow me to cross each leg at a time to adjust the straps. They firmly attached to my size 8 shoes, so I stood up to try them out.I tried to walk with the Lawn Aerator Shoes attached and quickly found out that normal forward motions of walking were difficult because the spikes would catch on the grass and it would be easy to trip and fall. What worked best was a marching action where each foot was lifted straight up and down in turn as I moved slowly around. After a few minutes of stomping holes in the lawn, I noticed that the straps around my legs were beginning to irritate my shins. I dealt with the irritation, but next time I’ll have to add some padding around my ankles since I don’t wear boots for yard work.Because spike aerators simply poke a small hole in the ground, it is hard to see where you have aerated. I used the expansion lines in an adjacent sidewalk to keep track of my progress. I estimate that it took about ten minutes of stomping to aerate 100 square feet of my lawn. When I was done, I saw that the spikes had picked up a lot of leaves, which I pulled off when I sat down to remove the shoes. I will see how the aerated section grows compared to the adjacent untreated lawn. If it does better, I will use the Lawn Aerator Shoes to continue aerating.Whether my lawn section does better or not is more related to why it is not doing well rather than if the Lawn Aerator Shoes did their job poking holes in the ground. So, basing my judgement on how well they are made, their ease of use, and their competitive price, I would recommend giving the MILLUXXi Lawn Aerator Shoes a try.

These do the job. You have to be patient and just go slow and they’ll do what you need them to. Good thing to have
