I ordered a similar set of indexable holders from a few years ago with the triangle style inserts and they have been the second best upgrade to my lathe, right behind upgrading the tool post to wedge style quick change. I used these on a 8x16 lathe for finishing 6061 and brass. The finish is better since chatter is reduced due to the smaller cutting edge, resulting in less engagement surface area. They are also great for corners where you don't want to be cutting on two surfaces but need a sharp corner on your part.

I've only had a chance to test these cutters with delrin plastic so far, but I got a very smooth, precise cut. The bars are very sturdy, overkill for my mini lathe. The carbide cutters appear well-machined, and left a very smooth surface behind. I'll update the review if I have any problems using these to machine metal rods.

I have a lot of 1/2in HSS I use for lathe work and it works great, but after picking up this set of tools with indexable carbide cutters, I don't know how often I'll go back to the steel tools. They cut really well, last a long time, and it's a lot less work to get a sharp edge. All you have to do is rotate the cutter insert and you're back up and running with a sharp edge exactly where you left off.The only downside (to indexable cutters in general) is that you can't sharpen or grind them to a specific shape for custom work. Overall, I'm really satisfied with how these are working out.

Using these on my bastardized South Bend 9. First project was turning a radius on the hand wheel from my import 3 ton arbor press. They cut the casting quite clean and accurate. These are ever so slightly thick for my quick change holders, so had to use my larger turret instead. Plenty good for my amateur hour.

These are pretty nice. I do not get much chatter or such when using these on my lathe. I have a smallish Grizzly lathe with a modified bit holder. The lathe is considered a 'table top' lathe which means that basically you dont need a fork lift to move it.. still weighs a few hundred pounds. You could use these for threading. I used my metric gauge and measured the bit at a 1.5 size (definitely not a machine thread pitch unless you are building really big stuff). The quality is good. This is not a high end set cost wise and exceeded my expectations. The carbide inserts are really only usable on each end. (two sharp ends) Each bar comes with the tool to replace the insert but there are no spare screws so work over a cookie sheet or something that will catch the screw if you drop it.

I got this set of lathe tools in order to bring my 19th century antique lathe into the 21st century. These lathe tools are well made out of good quality materials with excellent fit and finish. Each holder comes with its own torx wrench. The inserts fit perfectly and were very sharp. I tried it out on some random steel and it left an excellent surface finish. These holders seem quite durable and should give long service. Highly recommend. 5 stars.
