Your cart is empty.Besides a felting needle, a felting pad is your second most important tool when needle felting. A felting pad serves as an underlay for your project, and protects your needles and table top or lap. There are several different types of underlays available, non of which are better than the other. It is simply a matter of preference. it has excellent elasticity and does not change shape even after persistent pressing. It is a supplementary mat suitable for tight rolling, with a higher resistance to stress so it wears out less easily. However, due to its excellent elasticity, the mat usually bounce slightly follow with needle movement, it makes wool felting slower.One of the best needle felting underlay is the sponge. Of course you could use just a big, yellow sponge – we have one in the garage for car washing. But there are some available for needle felting purposes. They do not have the sticky/velvety feel of the yellow sponge. They feel drier and are sometimes a bit softer. Technically, they are also a foam product, but they are much softer than the last option, so they are categorized as a sponge. They are usually thicker than the foam options and therefore, can be easily used to work on your lap. I do recommend having a towel between the underlay and you leg, just in case. They also come in a variety of sizes and colors and do not make any noise when felting. This also gets the bonus point due to its ability to serve as a needle holder as well.

I left this foam pad in the manufacturer's package to keep it clean and placed it under a large concrete landscape tile and placed my FDM 3D printer on top of the concrete square. With all that resting on a stable base I created my printer is much less noisy and the print quality is better as well. First I had an upholstery shop cut me a piece of foam but this works even better since it's really dense. In my use case the size is also perfect!

This foam block does what it's intended for. However, within 4 days of receiving it, it started to turn this nasty yellow color. Now the whole thing is this dried pee color yellow and looks like I've had it for 10 years instead of a few months and it "feel" weird, like it feels almost as old as it looks. But it does do the job it was intended for.

I was not initially impressed with this foam, thinking that it was more like a chair pad than a felting pad, but I thought I'd give it a try. It actually works great. It's not as noisy/squeaky as the last type of pad I used. It's nice and firm and saves my table from damage. I'm not sure how long it will last yet before breaking down from repeated felting but there was no softening from the first project I did on it.

So far this beats the cheep foam block that came with another kit. Holds up very well. Nice and large too! It is definitely white. Easy to stick wool of other colors into it while needle felting. You can definitely take your felted project off of it, but it leaves a few strands of wool inside the foam which discolors it. I don’t mind that though.
