Replaced stock strings on my JMJ - perfect fit (of course these are made for Mustangs!) If you own a Mustang you owe it to yourself to give these a try.

Just enough brightness at full tone and very smooth when rolled off, I've tried 3 different brands of flats on my mustang and these are my go to.

Kind of a niche product, but these are some of the most important strings for the fender mustang bass. However, these are not for top loading bridges

I had a lot of issues with short scale strings with my Schecter Banshee but these strings fit perfectly, tuned perfectly, long enough and my bass sounds amazing with these.

If you’ve never tried flat wound strings on your bass (especially your short scale) do yourself a favor and try these La Bellas. Think Paul McCartney’s Hofner bass sound, think Motown (James Jamerson), Wrecking Crew (Carol Kaye). If your bass isn’t a “lead” instrument in your mix ala Geddy Lee in Rush, a P- bass with flats is the bomb! On a short scale bass flats are almost a MUST. Finally, stick a small 20 cent strip of foam under the strings next to the bridge to mute the sound and you’re all set!!!

So after 30 years of playing the bass I’ve finally tried my first set of LaBella strings. I am so glad I did. I came across this set looking for flat wound strings to put on my Fender Mustang strung through the body. This is an awesome set. They took the time to make these the perfect length and solved problems other manufacturers weren’t interested in addressing. (Both sets of TI Jazz flats and Fender flats went in the garbage because the E string broke and separated where the string comes through the body at the bridge). LaBella designed these specifically for the TB Mustang and extended the ball end wrap to protect the string at the bridge (see photo). The sound after a few days is incredible, and it didn’t take long for these to settle in and stay in tune. Of all the flat wound string I’ve used: TI Jazz, Chromes, EB Slinky and Fender... these have quickly become my personal favorite. Great fundamental sound with just enough bite to keep you present in the mix. I’ve played along with countless recordings and are convinced that they must use LaBella’s because I seem to have their tone without even trying. I won’t be using any other brand and wish I had tried these a long time ago. Just note that these are designed for Mustang’s strung through the body and will not work if yours is strung through the bridge... you will need a different length set.

To bad they seem like nice strings. Maybe there is another model that will work for shortscale?
