This vocal device allows you to stay in tune when you practice singing various notes in music and it is very affordable compared to other devices that cost much more and this device can help how you inhale and exhale when practicing vocal techniques and can help you with a singers vocal range for recording or singing onstage great handy device that you can take anywhere to practice your vocals!!!

Thought this could be a nice cheap alternative to an expensive device or PC software. The synth sound doesn't sound good. When I play my piano it also plays an octave off so I can't even use my piano to help with the correct note listening to the device. It detects the middle c as one more octave over wrong to the left along with the other notes. Wouldn't mind the slowness of it if it would actually detect the right note and octave.

I bought this item to work on my notes for choir, help with my sight reading of music, to see where I needed adjustment and to train my ears for the right sounding note. The Korg VPT-1 does a lot of things good, but it's not great. It could've been great with a little more effort on the part of the manufacturer.Pros:- It shows the note you are singing on the treble and bass scale.- It allows you to adjust your octave range, high/low.- It has a tone-back function when using headphones.- It has a tone generator to get the tone for specific note.- There is a flat, sharp and spot-on indicator leds to let you know where to adjust your pitch for the perfect note.- It allows three modes of note pitch sensitivity, easy/medium/hard- Sound output volume has three modes, low/medium/highCons:- This device is cheap. It's made with thin plastic, cheap lcd display and is very light weight. The heaviest part on the device is the two AAA batteries which makes me wonder how long this will last.- As others have stated there is no backlight to the cheap lcd display. It is impossible to see in low light conditions.- The device is not fast enough to sing a melody, where notes change frequently. You have to maintain your note until the device figures out what note you are trying to sing and display the results on the screen, i.e., practice only, not to be used live or even during song rehearsals.- The tone generator is electronic output, so it sounds like a synthesizer when it gives you the tone. This device is for singers so having the option to hear a natural voice output or a recorded pitch pipe would've been much more useful.- No note up/down buttons to get to the note you want quickly. In order to go to a note higher than the one you are on, you have to keep pressing the note button and cycle down through the treble and bass clef notes, including all the sharps and flats, until you get to the note you want. I would have paid extra just to be able to switch note selection both up and down, not just down.- No metronome function that other devices of this type have included. All in all, the Korg VPT-1 is a unique device that has value in very limited practice situations. It does what it does in the cheapest way possible. If the cons were addressed, I could see every singer using this device, but I find it useful for practicing intonation while alone.

Unless you plan to sing sustained straight tones - with 0 vibrato 0 then purchase this. Otherwise save your money. It is useless.

As someone who has always been curious about how low or high the notes I'm singing are but have no experience or resources around me to help, I found this item to be VERY helpful. While there are apps online that can help determine those notes, having this device in hand comes in handy :D. My main concern with the product was the accuracy of it. It does seem to be quite accurate when I compared it to other tuning methods. The item also gives me something to hold as a "mic" when I'm singing karaoke or to myself. I would say that this product is worth it if you are willing to pay the price for it. I also want to add that ever since I realized the high notes I was singing(highest sung is a G5!), it's given me a confidence boost :D
