I purchased this scan as a gift for my dad so he could finally scan all our old negatives and digitalize the photos from our childhood, and it turned out to be an absolute success! The process of scanning the photos was easy and straightforward, and it allowed us to relive so many beautiful memories. It’s been so rewarding to go through the old pictures and see moments from the past in such great quality. The scanning resolution is fantastic, capturing every detail and making the images look as good as new.The fact that it's from Kodak, a trusted name in photography, really shows in the product's quality. It's clear that the company has put a lot of thought into making this device user-friendly, efficient, and reliable. My dad loved how quickly he could go through the slides and negatives, and we now have all these timeless memories safely preserved in digital form.If you're looking to digitize old photos or slides, I highly recommend it —it’s a wonderful tool for anyone who wants to preserve their family history with ease and high quality!

This is a great tool and easy to use. I was prepared because I read the comments about it. You NEED TO BUY A SD CARD. This does not work without the card, but they are inexpensive. The SD card made transfer to the main computer easy, but you can use the cable also. It also is great to scan in negative strips. I scanned over 1,000 old slides that my parents took in the 1950s without any issue and they look great digitally now. I used a computer based program to enhance some of the faded ones as the scanner does not accommodate that, but this is a great small scanner and fast to use.

I've got thousands of old photos with negatives going back to the early 1970's, a mix of 35mm, slides and even 110 film. Over the years they've pretty much migrated to boxes, never to see the light of day again. After a fire destroyed both my parents' and brother's homes, it became apparent that the one thing that could not be replaced is the film record of our and our children's history. This scanner made easy work of capturing the negative images for our electronic record. Very fast to use, not as accurate as a high end film scanner costing several times as much, but it makes quick work of identifying the pictures that you want to archive and also finding those few that you'd like to scan on a maximum resolution system for printing at 8x10 and above. Scanning to an (up to) 32GB SD card facilitated quick capture independent of a computer. My only (minor) complaint is the scanner uses a Micro HDMI connection and the included micro to normal HDMI cable is only a few feet long so viewing on a large display requires having a "gender change" adapter to make the transition to a traditional HDMI cable. Great product, very glad I bought it.

Not sure exactly what I expected at this price point, so I've tried to balance my comments accordingly. First of all, the item is very neat and well-organized. The instruction manual is very good, and the keys/logic are very straight-forward to use/learn. Basically, this is just a box with a camera phone that takes pics of your slides/negative. There's 2 resolution settings; use the high one, gives files ~3-4 MB each.Good/great: small, lightweight, easy to learn/use, seems like a decent price-point.Not so good/great:- the slide/film carriers sometimes slip out a little from the base unit, leaving edges/shadows in the scans. Took me ~1/2 dozen rolls of film (slides) to figure that out, and had to re-do a couple of them.- it doesn't handle 'curled' negatives very well (that is, curved side-to-side from sprocket edge to sprocket edge). I've used it with some 'old' stuff (but not that old), ~30-40 yrs, and the film is curled a bit. Sometimes it won't feed through the mechanism (so you have to take out the slide racks, position by hand, and re-insert). Not THAT big a deal, I suppose, but still a bit of an annoyance.- seems the curling causes it to lose a bit of focus; that is, the film carrier doesn't force the film to lie perfectly flat in the center of the scanning area.- it takes a bit of getting used to to slide slides (does that make sense?!); starting a box, easy to put in 1, then 2, then the 3rd to help push/align the 1st one, etc. The last couple can be a bit tricky tho; have to use another slide to push/align the last ones. With 2 slides in the tray, you can barely (and I mean BARELY) grasp 1 from the left and 1 from the right to pull them out (otherwise, you'll have to use another slide to push them through). One thing I didn't completely realize when I ordered is that you HAVE to have/use an SD card. Description seemed to suggest (to me) 'optional', but that's not the case. I thought I'd be able to hook to laptop and scan/save directly there, but not so. NEED an SD card (luckily I had one on hand); the item saves to the SD card, and then you have to remove from the item, insert into laptop, and copy (etc.). There is a function to transfer from the item to computer but I haven't tried that...at minimum, you'd still have to disconnect USB from the item (power) and plug into computer. Don't love that, but it's really not all that bad.

I am a child of the 1950's. Everyone in my family and in particular my Grandfather used Ektachrome for slides. When I went away to college I studied Art and the fundamental method of conveying images was through slides. it was "standard operating procedure" for a long time. I have a Kodak Carousel slide projector still in use. I took slides of everything because Ektachrome was always in my Pentax Spotmatic F. I have accumulate a great many slides after almost 70 years but many of them have not been seen in a very long time. That is until now. I do not have a place to set up a projector and I have for a long time needed a way to achive this recorded history. I did the search here and discovered this unit from Kodak. I read reviews and have learned to toss the demonstrably bad ones from those with axes to grind (2 ** for no SD card included) . I bought this and fell in love with it right out of the box. It is very easy to set up and use with very little reference to the manual. I am one of those people who don't like using manuals. There were a few things like learning the clock is not designed to be continuous but just a date stamp that knowing in the beginning saved some frustration but for the most part the buttons on the top will explain themselves. I have had a box of slides slides floating around since moving in to my present location that had separated themselves from the bulk of those that I have stored. I have wanted to see what this box contained but it is not that easy to hold them up to the light and see all of the detail. So with new Kodak unit now plugged into the USB port of my iMac I headed into the unknown. With the unit powered on and a quick glance at the manual to see which button to push for review i was away down memory lane. I was initially only going to look at a couple of images to see how the images looked on the 5 inch screen. But i soon was so captured by the quality of what i was seeing that i went went one slide after another until every one of almost 200 slides had been recorded. I owned several slide viewers in the late 80's and early to mid 90's and they were always problematic to use. They were just small projection boxes whose lamps always generated a great deal of heat and were rather cumbersome to use and store. And they were only viewers with not means of recording images. This Kodak unit has solved everything for me. It is small enough that it sits comfortably amongst my other pieces on my desktop and yet large enough to easily see the screen. It is also very stable and will rest comfortably wherever it is placed. This unit has for me been the answer for everything that i have needed. Now I have a reason to excavate my Grandfather's old slides a relive the Christmas gatherings when everyone was still around. I whole heartedly recommend this Kodak viewer/recorder to anyone with similar needs.
