I like the K&N oil filters, I run them in all of my vehicles. The K&N is especially nice because you can either use a cup wrench, or a 1" socket to remove and tighten this filter.

I have been purchasing K&N filters for my cars since I was 16. The quality and reliability of this brand is exactly what I look for, for my daily driver as well as my project car. I’m never disappointed what I’ve bought from K&N. Use oil filters are easy to remove and easy to install and my car always drive so much happier after putting a new filter in. I can’t say enough good things!

I own 2007 Elantra and 2019 Sonata, and they both use same filters. Since Elantra is an older car, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on premium filters, so I bought Supertech MP9688 filter from Walmart for $5.97 (up to 20,000 miles, 99% filter efficiency) - a good enough filter for Elantra. But for Sonata, I wanted to buy something close to premium, and K&N Select Filter was recommended so I bought it from Amazon for $10.97 (up to 20,000 miles, 99% filter efficiency). Out of curiosity, I compared the two filters, and I was shocked! They are exactly the same! Only the color of the can is different. Same size, same design, same number of holes, same silicon anti-drain back valve, plastic inner core, same gasket, but different price! (There is a YouTube clip that shows that these two filters are exactly the same. Check out, "Walmart Supertech Oil Filter MP9688 Cut Open vs. K&N Oil Filter SO1004 Cut Open" by Whip City Wrencher). So this is a good filter, just save some money by getting Supertech MP 9688.

Just installed this past weekend and the car is running nice and smooth. Premium build and easy to install. Combined with a the K&N engine lifetime filter and good quality oil makes a great combo. Spend a couple extra bucks and go with this, your car will thank you.

Oil and filters are something one should never cheap-out on. Many oil filters today are rather poorly made internally, opting for cheaper construction materials (or lack there-of). What that means is a cheap may not have a proper relief spring for the bypass value (or even have a bypass), and often have much less filter material. The K&N performance filters have a proper bypass value, spring, a good anti-drain-back valve and a filter media that provides fine filtration while still offering good flow. The wrench-off nut on the top makes it easy to get off as well for any DIY'er. There are a multitude of articles and videos on the Internet that do filter tear-downs in which you can see the quality difference of this sort of filter vs. the cheap ones - I would definitely recommend checking them out to learn more about how filters work. I change my oil and filter far more often than the manual recommends - every 5000km, because oil & filters are cheap, engines are not.

K&N are quality filters, but for most daily-drivers they are probably not the best value. On some engines the filter placement is very tight or very odd. This is when the 1" nut on the canister is a big time saver. If you change your own oil and have a couple vehicles like mine with odd placement, the 3-4$ premium is worth it. Then you don't need to keep 4 different filter wrench cups and straps in your tool chest. Just use a cheap 1" combo.On my 6.0L Silverado, the filter is recessed so a strap wrench is useless if the filter is on tight. With K&N I can quickly pop it loose with a 1" combo.Same with my 3.6 Subaru. The filter is under a skid-plate, longitudinally placed, with about 1/2" clearance from a sensor. Rather than pulling off the plate to use a strap, I can run a 1" combo up through the maintenance hole and pop the filter off easily.Note: Do not use the canister nut to over-tighten your oil filter. Hand-tight + a 1/4 turn is usually plenty.
