This pulls hot air, and its been causing engine lights such as the engine running to lean.

Yes, louder, if that's what you're looking for. Was not an easy fit into my 2007 RX8, intake tube a bit too short. I wrestled it in, but now engine cover dose not fit. Maybe it's just my car and not the K&N unit.

Step by step instructions are clear although they have black and white photos so may be useful to download the PDF from the K&N website for the colour ones which will help with the install. Make sure you follow the instructions to reuse the mesh screen from your standard filter. This may be why some people have said they get idle issues with this. Also to reset your car fuel trim settings by pressing your brake pedal 20 times.I have had no issues and the sound makes a nice change to the car. I am also slight improvements in mpg which I was not expecting. Overall this is a worthy buy if installed correctly. Top marks.

I bought it for my 2004 Mazda RX-8 and I have no complaints. Installation was a breeze. All you really need is a ratchet, screw driver, and an Allen wrench. The intake took about 15 minutes to put together, then another 15 minutes installing it. After installing it, I test drove it around the block and boy was I blown away. The intake gives it a nice loud but deep growl. It can stay quiet at around 2000 RPM, but once you start climbing in RPM to around 3000+, is where the intake really shines. I fell in love with the intake instantly. I can feel the difference while driving and no doubt it'll turn some heads. In my personal opinion, this was worth the $300 price tag. Not to mention it's also made specifically for the RX-8. The engine cover fits nice and snug on the heat shield. Would totally recommend to another RX-8 owner.

I bought this for my RX-8 mainly for the sound. I absolutely love the sound that this intake gives the RX-8. After having it for about 6 months I still couldn't be happier. The install was easy and very straight forward. If you've ever worked on a car you shouldn't have a problem. It looks awesome and just sounds awesome. As for power increase I don't notice a huge difference in the lower rpms, but once you hit 4-5k rpms I definitely feel like it's putting out more power. One thing that I want to mention that I think should be advertised better is the added MPG. Before I installed this intake I was getting around 200 miles every tank in my 04 RX-8. After I installed this I am getting 230-250 every tank. That is something that I was not expecting at all and I'm not sure if its something they advertise. I highly recommend this intake for every RX-8 owner out there.

Get this intake. It will make your Mazda louder than all of the other ones on the road. Sounds amazing. It is well worth the buy!

Awesome kit! Looks good and delivers performance. Loud at high rpms but suddle at regular driving speed. Love the sound of a free breathing rotary at high revs. Great kit for the money and as a starter mod for your RX 8. I recomend it!

After much deliberation, I ordered the K&N Typhoon intake for my '05 RX8. I went with this one because of ease of install and the sound profile. I found the install to be a bit of a pain, but my biggest problem with it was getting the stock airbox out... Once I finally got it all put together and installed, I have to say I LOVE the deeper, throatier sound it gives the car! It's plenty loud at WOT or even if you're just driving at 60% or more, but it also quiets down to not much more than factory sound when just driving around town.Only downside and reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I've noticed a slight loss of low-end torque. The power band seems to have shifted a bit higher in the revs, but it's not all bad. Overall I'm very impressed and very satisfied with the great tone and performance of the Typhoon.

I bought the K&N cold air intake for my 2004 Mazda Rx8 (AUTO).... what can I say? I love this product. The cold air intake is not to hard to install, need a ratchet, screw driver, pliers, thats about it. Took me about 60 minutes to install, another half hour to road test and recheck everything.Overall, the cold air intake definately adds a little low end oomph, car felt a little punchier off the line, but I am not really trying to win any races, I just love the sound of a free breathing engine. K&N would have you believe that this cold air intake will add a bunch of HP... I don't know about that. But it does make your car sound awesome! And loud, at higher RPM. So expect to hear your RX8 like never before, it is a fantastic sound! May be a little annoying to the neighbors, but the nice thing is that at low RPMS, the car remains mostly silent. But as soon as you begin accelerating, especially over 3500RPM, sounds like you're driving a formula one car... minus the speed.BaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAh.... like that lol.Install: not the easiest K&N cold air set I have done, but mostly thats because of how low the RX8 sits. You have to bend a lot. I'm getting old. That hurts. Few tools needed, only hard part is adjusting everything so that the engine cover fits back on after the new kit is in.Something to be aware of; when a battery is disconnected on an RX8 ('04 at least), the traction control warning light will generally illuminate. This is generally normal. Turn the steering wheel with the car on all the way to the right, then the left; everything should turn off, no warning lights. You may need to start the car a few times before doing this procedure. Well, start it, listen to your new awesome intake, then turn it off. Repeat a few times, or go drive around a bit, then do above procedure. Be careful- if the light is illuminated, you should assume that you do not have any traction control...Buy this intake and you'll be happy. If you want to actually make your mazda faster, add lightness, and turbocharge it.
