The lack of a separate handle makes this strainer far easier to use. I never reach for my other ones with long handles anymore, as I can easy pour with one hand using this one (that's what I do with the others, too, but it's a lot less comfortable). Like all Hawthorne strainers, it's a bit of a pain to clean, but I think that is inherent to the style of strainer. As far as I can tell it is real stainless steel, and it does not seem to be tarnishing or degrading in any other way after months of use.

I was skeptical of the rubber bump to hold the strainer in place. I tried it as soon as it arrived, it was for a gift, and I was amazed at the grip it provided. Really. I'm so used to the metal tab, I really didn't think this would be effective.( so why did I buy it?? 😆)In the end I'm glad I did, I really dig that rubber nub now.

One of those things that just feels good in your hand. Not like my old cheap one. The spring is better than my old cheap strainer. A bit tighter spring and not loose. Fits beer glasses, shakers & my mixing glass like it was made for it. Stays in place well. I am glad I bought it.

I was pleased with the density of the wire and the overall quality and thickness of the metal.

I ordered this strainer as an upgrade to one that came in a cheapo set I received years and years ago. Overall it strikes me as a great tool for getting the job done. It feels substantial in the hands and the coils are nice and tight. The biggest issue I have with this long-handled strainer as compared to the short-handled one I got from the same company is that it just doesn't fit as well with either my shaker or a pint glass. The strainer does have an indent on the handle that I imagine might help it fit on a shaker with a wider mouth, but with my two shakers the strainer easily falls right into the liquid. For my money, the short-handled strainer is the way to go because it just fits better for one handed use without having to be as mindful or as skilled as it seems the long-handled requires.

For the price, this stainless steel Hawthorne strainer is very nice. It fits a wide variety of glasses and shakers (though quite tight in a standard pint). The spring is just soft enough that it squeezes into pretty much any glass with ease, but also holds the strainer quite well. I ran in through the dishwasher and it came out spotless.A few things I noticed is that it doesn't have a "lip" on the opposite end of the handle, so there is nothing to stop it from sliding into the glass. Also, it has a dip on the handle so it can rest on the edge of a shaker, but when using it with other glass types, the rim does not slide into the dip. These two things combined make it a little difficult to hold the strainer in place without a lot of practice. If you are planning on exclusively using a standard shaker, this isn't a problem, but if you need for a variety of serving tools, you may want to look at other options.
