I got this oak filter about 6 months ago and followed the directions for boiling it. I love the taste of the water. Its always in a full pitcher on my counter and is usually refilled every day. I boiled it again at 6 months. The taste is clean and pleasant. It's inexpensive, organic, easy to use and maintain with the promise of a long life. You really cannot beat the price, durability, safety and convenience.

I LOVE this item. It is incredibly easy to use and I kid you not, the water quality is insanely better. It tastes so smooth, pure and clean. Truly will never be without it now. Also, my coffee machine water filter was discontinued but now I can don’t need it with this gorgeous way to filter my water!! Anddd it’s eco friendly?? Come on. Perfect.

I bought both the washed and the unwashed versions. They are equally effective but I think I prefer the unwashed simply because they're a better value as far as cost. They make some of the cleanest tasting water I've ever had!Every now and then I throw them in a pot and boil them for about 10 minutes and refresh them. I do that more than they say you need to. I'm not sure if it makes any difference or not but it certainly hasn't hurt the effectiveness of them.

So happy I found these! My Britta pitcher had broken and I was pricing filters. I came across these and will never go back. I use4 of the broken sticks (equals 2 Regular sized ones) for a 1 gallon jar. It works great overnight. I then fill smaller glass bottles to make it easier to pour. We always have filtered water. I have very hard well water which tastes good, but creates buildup. I think this water is easier on our teeth and tastes as good or better than bottled water. I love that I can reuse these to help with odor when they are done filtering water. And then after that there is no plastic waste. It's a win-win! Buy them! You won't regret it.

Like another user, I tested their claim that the kishu removes impurities. I used a tds (total dissolved solids) meter. First I tested my tap water in a sterilized glass which resulted in 278 parts per million (ppm) which isn’t terrible but not awesome tap. Then I tested my zero water filtered water in a sterilized glass at about its half life stage and it was 5ppm! I then filled a glass pitcher with tap water, tested it again with the result of 278ppm.I added the kishu charcoal and waited the minimum recommended time of 4hrs. The water went from 278ppm to 307ppm! I waited another 24hrs tested again and no change. I left it in the pitcher of water with an airtight lid for another week, tested again and it went to 312ppm!If it seems to good to be true, it probably is! I had high hopes of ridding our family of the mountain of plastic zero water filters, and a possible solution for potable water on our boat but this IS NOT the cure!I did leave the seller the same information and they did not try to dispute my results or offer any explanations.

Although I like the natural quality of this product and the concept of a plastic-free water filter, unfortunately, it is not very effective. It does filter the water but not as well as the standard Brita filter. Even after 24 hours, the water was better tasting but not as clean tasting as a Brita filter pitcher (the Brita filter was almost at the end of its life by the way...

Smaller than I was expecting as only a few inches so useable only for personal water bottles but I have liked using it and the difference in taste to my water. Haven't needed to refresh by boiling yet but anticipate it will work, no worries.

I was a little skeptical about using a charcoal stick, but I also wanted a natural way to purify my water so I didn't have to keep buying so many bottles and jugs. I didn't want to buy a purifier like Brita or Pur because it costs so much in the long run since filters need to be replaced so often. I have used this charcoal stick to purify my Phoenix AZ tap water (which tastes gross) and this stick has actually made the water drinkable. I find that leaving the water to purify for an hour or two makes a good difference, but is tastes the best when I leave it at least 6 hours. I have noticed some little black specks, but I don't mind that since I know it's charcoal and not something nasty. I also like that the package comes with a piece of paper that you can write down the date you started using it and check off each month you boil it, making it very easy to keep on schedule. Overall, for under $20, being sustainable and lasting 4 months, this is a great deal compared to other kinds of filters. I will be purchasing the to-go filter soon as well.

I have used these for several years. I like that they are not toxic, not plastic, easy to "re-charge" by boiling once a month, and are bio-degradable when they are done. I use these in a glass pitcher. We keep several of these pitchers in the fridge, and just alternate them. That way there is one filtering and one ready to drink. These definitely work! I can't stand our tap water without them. They last about 6 months with a monthly boil. You can see when they need a re-charge because they do not produce as many bubbles when you drop them in. Great product!
