This is one of those activities that is perfect for a wide range of ages. My 2 years old granddaughter can play around with these pieces and she feels like she is actually accomplishing something. Some of the pieces are small so I just watch her very carefully while she plays with these. The older grandchildren can do their own designs, sort the pieces by sizes and colors and just let their imagination run wild. These are quality pieces that have very vibrant colors! I especially appreciate the hard plastic storage container that these come in.The activity cards are quite helpful for ideas with what to do with the kids.I highly recommend these and they would be a perfect gift! Something very different than the typical gifts that people tend to give.

This is a really nice set with a generous number of pieces. The variety of activity cards is great. One thing to consider, which isn't necessarily a con, is that there isn't much scaffolding for younger or less advanced kids. In other words, the pieces don't align to cards themselves like a puzzle. The sizing/scale of the cards and pieces is different. Kids need to build the patterns/activities on a separate surface. Again, not a big problem, but makes this set a bit more advanced than others I've seen.

This set is used for my Critical Thinking class for my littles. They enjoy figuring out the pieces and patterns that are included, and then conjuring up their own designs. The pieces are good quality as well, not too thick so that they're bulky but also not so thin that they're frail and break easily. Pretty good set!

My son absolutely loves numbers and puzzles, so this tangram set was a no-brainer. He has spent hours arranging the pieces (admittedly with my help, he's only 3) and gets so much joy out of seeing the numbers being put together. If numbers aren't your kid's cup of tea, then it also has a set of cards to make different foods. Things like watermelon, pineapple, bananas, etc. My son got a kick out of this too and he's getting pretty decent at putting them together himself. My favorite part is that it came in a nice, little box that holds all the cards and pieces. As a parent who is constantly cleaning up toys and putting things away, this was a very thoughtful thing to have. It's a good quality plastic holder and he can bring it with him around if he wants to. There are a lot of pieces, but they hold up well in its case.

The Thames & Kosmos Tangram kid is okay.. I wasn't quite as impressed as I had hoped to be. The container is small (see my hand for reference)--I liked this aspect. The cards, though, have shapes on them that aren't the same size as the shapes. This gets confusing when you're working with 3 different sizes of triangles (even my 10 year old mentioned this).

This is a basic set of plastic shapes to build tangram patterns. It performs as advertised. The set includes a plastic box with a lift-latch lid, about 100 plastic shapes, and a few cards to give you ideas of what to create. The shapes are all squares, parallelograms, and a couple different triangles - all in 5 different colors. The cards provide some guidance as to what to build as sort of a learning game, but like with most tangram sets, they are designed to promote creativity and open-ended play. The shapes are rigid, lightweight plastic, but they are about a millimeter thick, so they are not thin like paper. I think they are very durable for 3-5 year olds. and could handle the abuse of being in a preschool or kindergarten class. I think once you get past kindergarten, this set won't hold kids' attention spans for an extended period of time.I like the thick durability of the shapes and I like that everything fits in the included plastic pencil-box-like case. The weakness of the set is that the cards could offer some more creative guidance and gameplay, and it would have been nice to have seen some trapezoids in the set. But overall, if you like what you see in the product pictures, this tangram set is exactly that.

I partnered w/ a good friend w/ small children (2 & 4 y/o) since my kids are long past this stage. However having used tangrams before, I could appreciate the packaging - it makes it easier to keep them all together and still be portable. The plastic box is a good size, closes well. There are some cards included with shapes and 'challenges' (like make a rocket ship) which helped my friend since he's new to this. It took no time to get the adult in to playing with them! When introduced to his 4 y/o, he was immediately wanting to make "things" and they kept his interest for well over half an hour. There's also enough pieces that both dad and son could work on something at the same time.Very well worth it!

The pieces are relatively thin plastic, but the quality is good for the price. Tangrams can be quite challenging, so depending on your child's age and temperament they might get frustrated trying to replicate certain shapes. They are a great skill-building activity and can be used in many ways.
