The idea of this ladder is sound but the implementation is terrible. First, the instructions are not clear and leave much to the imagination. Second, they didn't put it together with bolts, washers, and Ny-loc nuts. They used pins and cotter keys, so the entire assembly is wobbly and unstable. The locking mechanism that keeps it from turning on the tailgate is barely adequate so when one climbs on it, it feels like it will spin around. The handle is barely adequate, essentially you are climbing a ladder with out a handhold. The ladder is rated for 600 pounds but the attachment mechanism is barely adequate for my wife who weighs less than a fourth of that number. The worst part is the thing is always in the way. Even if you open it up so it is not on the tailgate, the latching mechanism is smack in the middle of the tailgate. Want to slide some lumber out of the truck? Not happening. Want to slide some plywood out? Not happening. Want to put your toolbox on the tailgate? Nope, the latching mechanism is right in the way. So that is not happening either. A far better approach would be to mount this on the outside of the tailgate but that would be a totally different design with a custom bracket. At this point, it is still on the tailgate but frankly, I plan on removing it this weekend. If my return time slot has expired, I will just toss it in recycling. Very disappointed with this, as a simple stepladder from the hardware store is a far better solution.

Bought this and was not able to install right away. It looked good but after 5 weeks when I could install it( after I could no longer return) I found out the ladder hold down plate nut was not welded securely which means the ladder wobbles when using it and the first rainstorm caused the ladder to rust everywhere.
