Scam. This is from the early 1990's for the first laptops ever created. I needed the black Kensington key, this one is silver and decades old.

I purchased this to protect my daughter's while at college. The Master Lock Universial Notebook lock worked as expected in the lock slot on the notebook. While the keys pictured with the product are not what the ones I received look like and the cable seems kind of thin, it works to keep someone from walking off with a laptop in the library or if you leave your dorm room open while you run to the bathroom.Bottom line is it's mot the most heavy duty option, but it should provide a deterent.NOTE: Go to the Kensington website to register your product with the key number off the keys. This would enable you to get a new key to your lock should you lose your keys.

I've looked around for a security cable that would be dependable yet not too costly. The cables I looked at in stores started at $23, cheapest! I saw this one on Amazon and am glad I bought it. I commute to different locations a lot and use this cable every day, locking and unlocking it. I've not had any issues with the lock or cable. Very sturdy and fits my on-the-go needs.

All I wanted was a security cable that fit a Macbook Pro. This one worked! As far as the strength of the cable, as some have commented on, I don't see that attribute as relevant. Security cables aren't made to stop thieves wielding bolt cutters. They're made to prevent the "crime of opportunity" --- to deter the intern or janitor from swiping your laptop while you're out at lunch.

What could be simpler than securing your laptop with a cable lock? I bought this product and a year later, was still trying to figure out how to get it to work. I am able to 'lock' and 'unlock' the unit easily by itself, but it just would not lock when I inserted it into the slot on my laptop. The pin looks non-standard when compared to some of the cable locks I have seen before, and does not turn when inside the slot.Months later, I finally cracked the case. I had to push - really push hard - so that the locking part would enter far enough into the laptop security slot. This would happen through a compression of the little piece of rubber that sits against the laptop. At least, I can use the cable now! Phew!
