The slate base is even more attractive than pictured. I had a little trouble putting it together, but once I overcame that it went together well. The only negative is the fabric used for the shade looks cheap. I will eventually replace it but it is not a standard shape or size so I'll have to pay for a custom shade.

The lamp was just what I was looking for. It's of excellent quality, easy to put together and heavy enough to ensure that it won't be knocked over. It's a beautiful addition to any room.

Received it in two days and am very impressed. It's even more attractive than the picture in the advertisement. Box was very heavy; first clue that it is real slate and sturdy. As stated in a few reviews, it's a bit short {only 53"}, but we knew that when we bought it. [Manufacturer; if you're listening, know that another 6-12" would be much nice!]. With that said, we're very happy with it; so much so, we may get another. :>)Assembly: So easy, a kid could do it. BUT, don't rush because there's only a few parts. Note that the key to stability is tightening the poles at the base of the lamp AFTER ensuring the thread to the pole above is properly positioned and tightened. Read a couple reviews about the lamp being a bit wobbly. Not the case if you heed this advice, which happens to also be in the instructions---just not highlighted. ;>)

I bought two of these. The base is heavy and distinctive colorful natural slate. This is not going to tip over.They look very nice in my living room. Each does have 3-way lighting switch though another reviewer has said otherwise, which is actually not the case. They came well packed and were very easy to put together. I have mine sitting on a hard wood floor and they are very stable and do not wobble. I use a 30-70-100 watt 3-way soft white bulb and with the shade gives the room a nice glow.Update: I now own 6 of these. Occasionally I have had the problem where the 3-way function did not work out of the box. 2 actually. That's a 33% rate. One did start working properly overtime. The last one I bought I fixed myself. First I unplugged the lamp, then made sure the lamp was fully discharged by replacing the bulb and turning it on and off a few times then waited a half hour. Next a took a screwdriver and moved slightly, backward and forward (just slightly, hardly noticeable ) the silver colored notch poking up in the bulb holder. Not the copper colored spring type metal contact. Replaced the bulb, plugged it in and turned it on. And it worked. Maybe being new, it is stiff. But I would suggest if you don't want to do that, plug the lamp in and check the 3 way before putting the lamp together and unpacking complete. But I would be very careful of course. Richard

This Kenroy Home Bennington Table Lamp with Natural-Slate Finish is indeed a very beautiful lamp and seems to be made of high quality materials. The stone slabs that comprise the base of the lamp make it very heavy so stable. As many others noted the colors vary from the picture on Amazon web site, generally darker with more gray / blue / green tones, but not way off as there are still some lighter browns and golds. It is more multi-colored than any one color. But a few important details that may help perspective buyers are...1. the shade does block a fair amount of the light so you'll need to use a higher wattage bulb to achieve sufficient room light unless you just want subtle mood lighting.2. the shade is NOT square shaped as described, it is rectangular as it looks in the pictures. And it is very narrow on one dimension (as is the lamp).3. the length of the lamp cord is very generousOverall, I am very pleased with this lamp. Just be aware the shade does not transmit as much light as you might expect since it is both lined with cloth and a very deep cream color (not white).Noel HonigsfeldMolokai Hawaii

This lamp is exquisite, from the handsome textured slate stone to the fashionable looking shade and finial. It came very sturdily packed, which is important, as I had been concerned about shipping something so fragile as a lamp. It was easy to assemble, and complements the living room in my country home perfectly, and is easy to coordinate with a variety of color schemes. Being made of stone, it is very heavy, which is good to prevent tipping over, plus it has a wide base for even more stability.

I really wanted to love this lamp. I ordered two to go into my new living room, next to my olive green sofa and chairs. In the first order, one of the lamps was fine, but the other was exceptionally copper in color, and had a big crack across the slate (yes, I know slate is a natural material and will have imperfections, but this gash was just too much to ignore). Amazon was great in sending out a new lamp and having the old one picked up. Unfortunately, when I got the replacement lamp, I found it to be very, very teal in color, and 1/2 inch shorter than the other lamp! Plus, the base and top of the lamp was different from the other one I had gotten (one was very square and small; the other was more rounded and larger). In addition, the replacement lamp was not at all square (the slate had not been cut or polished to be square) and the imperfections in the slate were so severe that you could actually cut your hand if you ran it across the slate of the lamp. All in all, I found the quality of the finishing of the lamps to be very, very low...even though the lamps themselves look nice (just don't touch them!). As others have posted, please do not expect a beige, brown, or neutral lamp...what I got was extremely teal and copper in color, which in no way matched my furniture. In fact, I don't see them matching anything that isn't a brown or copper tone...the teal is just really bright and obnoxious. I just gave up and returned everything, as I can't see buying something that isn't even the same style or height, even though it is advertised as such. Again, I really wanted to love these lamps...but just couldn't. But Amazon has been amazing in their customer service, sending UPS out to pick up the lamps and (hopefully!) refunding my money.
