I've got this set up on the wall of my turtle's basking area in her aquarium. The temperature reading is handy to get an idea of the outer temperature range - I still use a probe thermometer to get the central (directly under the lamps) surface temperature though, but that isn't permanently there since it'd get in the way of my turtle's basking (plus, she'd probably nibble at the probe). Hence, it also functions as a safety check if the bulbs are failing/decreasing in performance. It requires power through USB-A, which isn't an issue for me since my lighting power bar has built-in USB-A ports, but I do find it odd that it has an in-line power on/off switch. I guess if your outlet is hidden or tucked away then it'd be useful if for some reason you want the thermometer off, but I don't think leaving it on would affect any pets - at least for turtles, they typically sleep in the water if your lighting follows a diurnal setup so any light from the thermometer wouldn't really reach them.At $18, the price is somewhat higher than other similar offerings available on Amazon, especially when compared to button battery-powered ones. I've used this for a month so far, but if it ends up lasting for several years, then I could see it having greater value than the tried and trued battery-powered ones since a pack of LR44 batteries usually costs around $8 and each battery lasts for around 6 to 12 months.

Updated 2/1/2025: Maybe I got a dud, but mine doesn't work like I thought it would. It does not refresh the temp and humidity reading every 10 seconds. I have to turn it off an on again to see what the temperature and humidity is currently. Mine cannot continuously monitor, any I don't have time to babysit it and push the bottom all the time. I had to buy a couple of the battery operated thermometers/hygrometers to effectively monitor my snakes enclosure. I don't recommend.Original 2/24/2025: This is a nice and simple to use plug-in thermometer and hygrometer. I am using it in my ball python enclosure. It's showing ambient air temp of 67F on a chilly winter morning here in sunny Socal (not to worry, his warm hide is reading 90F). There is only one button to turn it on and off and the bottom is conveniently place halfway along the power cord, so you do not have to go into the enclosed to access the button. To reset, use the same button to turn it off and then on again.I forgot to take a picture before I misted his enclosure. But it was reading 60% humidity. After I misted the entire enclosure, it now reads 83% humidity.I would say this thermometer/hygrometer is accurate. I don't have another hygrometer to compare the readings, but I used a infrared thermometer to separately take the temperature, and results came out accurate. So, I feel comfortable going with those results. It would have been nice to have a black option because all the wires in my tank and for the tank accessories are black. Others might prefer bright white, but I like tank accessories to blend into the background/shadows.This comes with two-sided sticky adhesive already mounted to the back of the unit. Just peel and stick. I haven't done it because I'm and still thinking about the placement and I might upgrade my ball to a larger tank soon. The plug is a standard USB-A. So you'll either need a power strip/socket/adapter that can accommodate the plugOther than color selection, no complaints. It's small, accurate, and easy to use.

First thing's first: It works and accurately reads the temperature and humidity. It does what it says. I'll give it 4 stars for that.However...For one, it requires a charging block (it's a USB cord). I guess the upside is that you'll never have to worry about changing batteries, but if you're putting this into an animal enclosure, you'll have to run a separate cord into it specifically for this.It also has an on/off switch. Not sure why as you could just simply unplug it when it's not in use.Again, this product works, but for animal enclosures, there are more convenient options to explore.
