Yeah, you can guy a plastic can. I've done it. But there are good reasons to use metal for storage of fuels. This can will last longer than you will. Buy it once, be done with it. A solid investment in durability and safety.

I have several of these cans in 5 gal size for transporting and storing gasoline and diesel fuel for quite a while. They hold up very well over the years. Their safety features are very important to safely handle fuels. The 2 gal size I just got will be perfect to store my fuel/oil mix for yard equipment.

Purchased 1 of these, & it arrived undamaged. While I expected it to be a heavier guage metal ( I was recalling a Galvinised Gas Can Our Grandad had when growing up) this just wasn't what I wanted. It look's to be a well made Can with good features, but it looks like it would be difficult to actually pour the Gas out w/o making a mess. They do have a Funnel for them that You can purchase separately, but at this price point it looks like it should be included w/the Can w/o having to purchase separately- IMO. I would say the Guage of this is isn't too much thicker than an average Can for Gas You could purchase at any Store that sells them, so due to value versus what You are getting for the price paid We returned the Item. No shade on the Manufacturer, as stated it appears to be a well made Can. Best, PawPaw C

Well built, paint looks great, and clever (metal) handle device that opens the cap "automatically" while pouring.Highly recommended over a plastic fuel can.

I already had a five gallon gas can from Justrite, and I love it. These cans are well built and have a strong spring holding the filler cap tight to the base, so no gas spills or splashes out until you pull back on the handle/lever.Also, being made of metal, the gasoline is kept more pure for a much longer time than it does in plastic cans. They cost more, of course, but it is obvious the difference between the two types. I tend to use a lot of gasoline here on our property, which consists of 87 acres, although I maintain only a few of those acres as though they were lawns. It's just that the time inbetween cuttings can be a couple of weeks out in the fields, so the gas will sit for a while. I believe that it's always a good idea to use the additives to protect the gas, but to also use metal containers for even better, longer protection from volatility loss.I got this one gallon model in green for my 2 cycle mix, so it won't be confused with other 1 gallon cans I have. Because I already have experience with the Justrite cans, I had no problem ordering another from that company. I didn't get the model with the funnel because I already have one on the larger can, and I can switch them whenever I want. Like I said, the construction is great, feeling like pure quality right from the package. Some have mentioned that the funnel setup, which you can buy sperately or which comes with these cans by selection, will allow some gas drippage, which it will if your funnel is set at an angle tilted towards the can itself. I avoid this by keeping the funnel upright before tilting the can and prying open the cap. It's all a matter of pouring straight down into the funnel. A full five-gallon can is a bit heavy, so it's not always easy to hold one up while keeping the funnel upright, especially for many women, so I would suggest smaller cans for those who have problems in this way.In conclusion, I would say that if you're looking for a solid gas can that will keep gas relatively potent for a longer time, and that will not leak while being jostled in a vehicle, I would suggest the Justrite cans of any size. Most of us use gas cans rather regularly, so the extra cost for something you won't need to buy again for a long time might be well worth whatever extra you pay.

If you want an excellent can that is still made in the USA, this is your can. It has a deep stainless mesh anti-flashback screen that allows you to fully insert the fuel nozzle without any issues. The spring on the lid keeps it tight enough that I can add fuel treatment after it's full and give it a good shake without any fears of even a drop leaking out. Yet the lever is not too stiff to make it easy to hold open. The handle is hinged so that you can maintain the same grip to keep the lid open while you pour - important for filling a big tank, a tank that's high up, or for when the can is getting empty. It's also nice as you carry the can - it hangs naturally from your arm/hand. And, in case you're not used to using metal cans, it levels the can as you set it down, so it reduces the chance of denting the lower rim as you set it down on asphalt or concrete surfaces.Like the others who have compared the Justrite cans to the Eagle cans, I sided with Justrite on the basis that the can just seemed like a better design. I purchased three cans in total - this one for my diesel tractor, and two smaller red ones with gooseneck spouts for my gas and gas-oil mix equipment. This one is Made in USA, and states so clearly on the box and can. The two gooseneck cans ( and - both are red, despite their descriptions, by the way) are made in China, also clearly marked on the boxes and cans. I don't know if the lower capacity cans are made in China, or if it's the ones with the gooseneck pouring spouts. I decided that the design of the cans was good enough to forgo the country of origin, although I hope that Justrite is listening when I say that I would have gladly paid the extra cost of having this can made in the USA!If you've read this far, you probably have already decided that a perfectly sealed metal can is the better choice compared to plastic cans that have pouring issues, odor issues (this can has spent many trips from the gas station inside my minivan without the slightest hint of fuel odor escaping), or whose cap always seems to get lost or chewed by mice.My final plug for any can that is perfectly sealed is that your fuel will be less likely to degrade or become contaminated with dust, etc. and any CARB-compliant container will do the trick. As you would expect, this can is in fact CARB compliant....and in case you didn't know, the accepted standard color for diesel fuel cans is yellow. If you want one of these cans for gas, save yourself any embarrassment and get it in red instead:
