Works very well and the built is excellent. For those not familiar with these recovery systems, it must be stressed that it requires periodic maintenance to be sure that the unit is checked and emptied periodically. Otherwise, the engine seals can be damaged by the excess back pressure in the oil pan.

Very easy installation of additional 6 oz of capacity to my existing 6 oz J&L oil separator. I did have to move wire harness to the inboard side of mounting bracket, but that was an easy adjustment. The additional insert extension was very good quality and comes with neoprene sealing ring. This increases the capacity to 12 fluid oz., which is necessary to extend the emptying service time. The Ford F-150 eco boost 2011-2016 3.5 engine does use the pcv quite a bit at idle and low speed and the older 2013 engine has direct fuel injection without port injection as newer 2017 and above. The added port injection along with direct injection the gasoline is sprayed at idle and low speed, washing the intake valve cleaner of pcv blow by oil accumulations., so oil carbon build up will cause intake valve problems over a longer period of time and the engine will need to be torn down to clean after 100K miles. This oil separator is a must for a 2013 - 2016 3.5 eco boost engine. 2017 plus years still get some pcv blow by deposits but not as much as 2013 - 2016 however these new models could benefit from the J&L Oil separator 3.0 12 fluid oz capacity.

I've been using the J&L separator for about 2 years now on my '12 F150 FX4 Ecoboost and I can tell you that it works. After each oil change I empty the cup out and it's usually about half to 3/4 full. There have been times where I forget to empty it and it comes really close to overflowing. Saw this and figured it would, at least, give me some piece of mind in case I forget to empty the cup routinely. Doubles the capacity of the OEM cup so now I'm cool if I don't empty the cup after each oil change. Installation is simple so you just need to attach this piece to the original cup and tighten it. I tightened it SUPER tight since there should be no reason to detach it in the future. Then just screw it in normally into the separator and you're done. You should make sure you have the clearance to add this piece in. I installed mine the "normal" way by attaching it to the battery and clearance was kinda close. Still works and fits fine but if you installed your separator somewhere else in your engine bay then you'll need to double check clearance before getting this. All in all though, glad I got this.

I purchased the JLT 3.0 Can Extension to increase the volume of my JLT 3.0 Oil Separator/Catch Can. The Can Extension fit perfectly an I highly recommend this product. I can not say enough about how well the JLT Oil Separator is working on my 2015 F150 with a 3.5 Liter Ecoboost Engine. This Can Extension has increased the volume of the original Catch Can, so I don't have to worry about it being over full. I will still change at 3000 mile intervals.

If you are running a JLT separator system on your F150 and live where the the winters are cold, you need this. The added capacity is more for moisture collection than pure oil vapor. Can go 5K miles with no concern about it filling up. In the summer that wasnt an issue with the 3oz canister but winters mine would get pretty full before an oil change. Now I can drain it with the oil. Simple install. If you get one that doesnt fit your canister, just contact JLT and they will make it right.

Same quality as the JLT 3.0 oil separator I bought for my 3.5L ecoboost ford f150. Added some much needed depth and capacity to the 3oz container. 6oz is much more reasonable for service intervals. Keep in mind, if you didn't mount to your battery box and did a custom mount job somewhere else, be sure you have space for the extra length after adding this.INSTALLATION: use a little oil (or some right out of your existing catch can) and lube the o-ring on the bottom canister. Then screw the extension on all the way until it's locked in place. You will never separate the canisters from each other again, so that's why you want to screw it all the way in. Then screw it back into the top unit. Why 4/5? - While the fit and finish is pristine, and JLT answered the call for more capacity, I am a bit dismayed they didn't add baffling to the extension here. When off roading, you're bouncing around quite a bit...baffling prevents liquid oil getting sucked back up and out. JLT dropped the ball here imo...but they can always design a drop in 2-3 tier baffle that would make their offering here even more competitive. Granted, it's a minor nuisance since you can simply empty the can before off roading. But if you forget to, you might be out in nature and dumping oil is not something very friendly to our planet. The other problem is the catch can is very hot after driving, so you have to let it cool down if you don't have something to grab it with.
