I love this pen! It’s so comfortable to write with long term, not heavy at all, and my hand does not get fatigued. The nib flows well. Plus it’s cute without costing an arm and a leg. Definitely recommend!

The pen itself is usable, however, it is not the same pen in the image. The converter has been downgraded and is now made of cheaper transparent plastic instead of the fine looking gold one like in the image. There is deception here, so buyer beware! No surprise coming from a Chinese brand, but a dirty little production cost saving trick nonetheless. Also the price has gone up. Sad to say, but due to this deception, I will not be purchasing another Jinhao.

People who know nothing about fountain pens should NOT be buying them. The VERY FIRST THING YOU SHOULD DO IS CLEAN IT BEFORE USE OR IT WON'T WORK RIGHT. All new fountain pens like these need to be cleaned in something like Simple Green or a good liquid soap. New fountain pens have oils in the feeds and nib and of course they will not work well at all if you don't fully flush them with soap. It amazes me the bad reviews they get from amateurs who don't know this. One thing that makes these super writers is go to one of the big time fountain pen dealers and buy the super fine abrasive cloth to very quickly polish the nib so it writes like silk. You must read how to do this or you can quickly destroy the nibs. It only takes a few strokes to do this correctlly. Once you clean and polish the nibs they are what I make notes with all the time. The other thing is that any fountain pen is not going to write perfectly all the time. If you dont use them alot they can choke on you, but a simple turn of the converter know will move the ink back into the nib in a simple tiny twist and you're back in action. I love this big fat butt pen, it feels so good in the hand for me, look great and perform well if you know what you're doing. I have four of them now and these are a joy and a bargain!

Its a beautiful pen that writes really well and smooth on cheap notebook paper but, oddly, is very inconsistent with higher quality paper. I got the Fine nib and paired with Lamy ink. Medium nib would probably be better if you regularly use nicer quality paper. For some reason I thought this might be one of those small pocket pens, but was pleasantly surprised to find its a regular sized pen. It comes with a converter that holds more ink than regular cartridges. That being said I might give this one away. I have small hands and this pen is quite thick. Its good for signatures, but I find that actually writing with it for any length of time is very uncomfortable. Someone with large hands would probably love it though.

I bought 2 of these fountain pens because of how they looked in the photos, knowing that for the price it would not be anything spectacular.Indeed, their appearance is wonderful, they look impressive, but beyond that things change, it has good finishes but the materials are of low quality, the plastic body is easily scratched. The nib has a gold color part which began to disappear when cleaning it since it was stained. I had to take it apart to completely clean the gold color. The nibs are out of tune and had to be aligned for it to write acceptably. For the price they are good, but they are not worth it for anything serious.

I have a bent nib, fine nibs and medium nibs. This nib is larger than my medium but smaller than the bent nib. I was really hoping for something between fine and medium. The pen is nice and light and though large, it's not uncomfortable to hold. Smooth writing. No other complaints except the nib size.

The Jinhao 9019 is big and fat. The fine nib writes beautifully. Looks great! Very attractive gold converter holding a lot of ink. No cartridge included, but I personally would not use one. The threaded cap takes five twists (not full rotations) to remove; six to to replace. Despite the size, the pen is not heavy. It posts securely but is well balanced without posting. The size of the pen might make it difficult for smaller hands to use comfortably. It also makes it fun to own if only to amuse your friends. The black and gold version looks like it costs hundreds; for $14.00 it's a steal.

When you look at the price point and weigh it against what you get, this is a fantastic pen that punches way above it class. This is a large pen. For many, this will not be a very comfy pen. My wife's small hands don't find this a comfy pen. But for larger guys like me, I really enjoy the size. And even for me, the size took a bit to get used to.The nib is a nice large #8. Pretty smooth ha e to say, but not the smoothest in my stable. But still, very good. I find the lower my writing angle, the smoother it gets, but my typical, default angle, I get a little bit of feedback. But nothing to put me off the pen at all.The most obvious comparison to this pen would be the Jin Hao X159. This pen is just a little larger. The 9019 measured 13mm at the base of the grip and 16.4mm at the widest part of the barrel on my calipers, vs 12.6mm and 15.2mm on the X159Perhaps the biggest improvement between those two pens is the very large converter. I included a photo to show the converter size comparison to the X159.Dollar for dollar, the pen really is a steal. Very glad to have it. If you've been wanting a large pen but didn't want to commit to large dollars, give this pen a try

I am happy to say that my experience with this pen is a revelation. I was sorry to read about the other reviewers experience and to be honest if I had read before probably wouldn't have purchased mine. The No 8 nib writes really well, ink flow is great. I have a few £100+ pens and this is up with them in writing quality. The plastic barrel and finish is what you would expect for the price so overall im very happy. I have just ordered another for my daughter to take to school so really good writing and not too much of a drama if it gets lost or damaged for the price.

About the only realistic value comparison is the Jinhao X159, which was also a value breakthrough when it was released. But I find the 9019 a great improvement. The build quality feels like a major step up -- the overall fit/finish is very good. The plastic is satisfyingly thick in all areas, and doesn't feel flimsy anywhere. Very large and attractive nib. Also, I flushed the nib with water before use, and found traces of blue ink -- this confirmed other reports that Jinhao is doing some actual QC steps/testing on the nib/feed. It was reflected in a perfect writing experience that required zero nib adjustment out of the box. Better than many high-end pens I've owned. This adds enormous value at this price point. My nib is EF, which is highly recommended if you need to do any small writing or math. These Chinese nibs tend to run large. Best to think of them as one size larger than advertized. The pen holds an excellent quantity of ink -- the new converter design holds more than double that of a standard international converter. A very welcome improvement.I went with the wine color, which I find pleasing. Nothing spectacular, but nice. The size and shape are extremely comfortable to my long fingers. Possibly the most comfortable writer I have. But, this is an area that you'll need to think about -- the pen is very big, compared to the average fountain pen. It's large enough that certain modes of carry start to become inconvenient. For this reason, I don't use it as a "carry everywhere" pen, which is a bit of a pity, because the price/quality/features would otherwise make it ideal for that kind of use.Almost nothing can compare at this price. Two of my other value favorites are the asvine v126 and the penbbs 480. But, each of those are *multiples* of the 9019's price.
