Nice sander and works well. Set up would have definitely been easier with a second person. The top is heavy and came in a wooden crate. The base cabinet is nice, but ships in a cardboard box with some foam. Had a dent in the cabinet that mostly came out with a hammer and wood block.Would have given it 5 stars if Jet would have done a better job with packaging. I had the same problem with the Jet dust collector that I ordered, do it seems to be an issue with the light weight boxes that Jet is packing heavy items in.

My husband purchased this sander. He said it works good and it’s a great addition to his workshop. He wishes it had swivel wheels to be able to move it easier.

Took some learning but when I figured it out the sander cuts down sanding drastically

We bought a Jet oscillating drum sander locally about 8 or 9 years ago. Having it greatly helped in building our kitchen. Fast forward to today, we moved into a new house and we’re starting to build a new kitchen again, when the wrought iron upper carriage assembly broke. Tried to buy a new one but they are discontinued and not in stock. We called Jet, no response. We sent emails and finally got a response a week later that said our question had been referred to tech support and we would get a call within 2 days. Four days later, we called them. Apparently they redesigned the carriage (most likely because it kept breaking) and there is nothing they can do for us. Our $2200 oscillating drum sander with less than 100 hours of use on it is now a very expensive boat anchor. Who else thinks that when you buy an expensive piece of equipment for your shop, one that should last a lifetime, the company who made it has an obligation to continue stocking the parts that are most likely to break, especially when they know it’s a problem? We do. And we will never again buy a piece of Jet equipment. As an aside, the tech support person did give us very complicated instructions on how to take the thing apart (apparently it wasn’t designed to be taken apart) so we could take it to a welder to see if they can get it back together. If a welder can’t fix it we will be taking it to the dump because who wants a giant $2200 mistake taking up shop space with no purpose other than to mock you for your bad purchase.

This machine replaced my Delta drum sander that was 18" wide, and also open ended. With that sander, as with this one, one of the keys is to get the tension right on the belt that moves the material you're sanding under the drum. If you don't have enough tension, this belt will slip, your stock won't move or will bog down, and you'll get divots in your workpiece, or burning. Adjustment is easy with an Allen wrench. This sander has enough power, and is direct drive vs. belt drive. It also has a feature that adjusts the feed rate as the drum sander engages your workpiece: if you're taking off too much stock, or the stock is particularly hard, then the machine senses this and slows down the feed belt. All in all, a great timesaver in the shop, and I find I am using it more and more for even routine sanding. Sandpaper changes are similar to the Delta I owned, and are relatively quick. Note: after you've installed new sandpaper, stop the machine after a minute or two of use and retighten your sandpaper if needed. The paper will expand in use (it gets hot) and your initial "tight fit" may become less so.
