This arrived spilled in the box. Gesso everywhere inside and the bottom of the container broken. What a total MESS. Not even sure it's returnable because it's such a mess!

I have a 4 foot square canvas painting (acrylic) in black and teal - hand built the frame myself and the subject matter no longer fits our home, so I tried Jerry's heavy Gesso Primer which is thick and gives great coverage. Even the black areas are covered now and I can start fresh with a new painting.

This is super thick, opaque gesso. It doesn't need to be mixed before use, and it dries quickly. Unfortunately, mine came with some dried crumbs in it. The texture of this gesso when it dries is unlike any gesso I have used before -- it's almost like fine sandpaper. I imagine that's desirable for lots of applications, like pastels. But for me, it was a very unpleasant surprise. I need a smooth surface. If you're gessoing a surface that you were going to sand anyway, like a wood panel, this is no big deal -- it's easy to sand and becomes very smooth and hard. But if you're using this on delicate paper surfaces like I am, or you really do not want the extra hassle and mess of sanding, this is gonna ruin your day.I'll also add that this is definitely a very absorbent gesso. Be prepared for some substantial loss of gloss if using oils.

Good gesso. Others don't coat as well but Cost less. Less work time spent on gesso is probably worth it for most people.

I like tot save $$ when I can so tried this gesso. Ordered a second container as it's perfect consistency, driedfast and leaves a slightly sandy surface. Holds paint like a dream!
