Like many things these days. The quality has gone down the toilet. This was returned because the threading came right of the wood.

Armature would not fit into the hole in the wood. Poor construction.

This item is way too flimsy for heavy work and doesn’t have a strong supportive base. Just the armature shoved into the wood base and just not sturdy :-/Instead I bought a piece of wood 16 x 16in 1 in thick and a single 12in plumbers pipe and an flange. Four screws and this monster will hold heavy ceramic works. Already working nicely. Maybe for smaller works this product would be okay.

There isn't much to get wrong here, so when they mess up, it's really disappointing. There are two pieces to assemble with this: the wooden block which needs to be attached to the base and the piece with the head which needs to be secured into the hole in the wooden block. After attaching the wooden block, we found that the hole in the block was not big enough for the head piece. We ended up having to make the hole bigger so that the head piece could fit. Sloppy construction to say the least.

I purchased the larger Richeson armature and in truth thought I was purchasing the same product. The base is cut too short to support a substantial amount of clay and the neck is much too long. I sculpt portraits/busts using air dry clay and usually have my armatures made. I needed one immediately but could not use this because the weight of the clay would tip the base over. This may just be my particular issue - but I am confused about the construction ? Purchase at your own peril !
