This is a very nice and a solid steel probe that will last for years. Just beware that the tip is very sharp and may need to rounded if your worried about piercing through cables and pipes like I was. I just took an angle grinder to it and created my own flat bullet type tip. Still a great tool to own and have.

Seems sturdy yet small enough in diameter to penetrate the soil

Didn’t expect it to be so solid. This will save my back when looking for gas test stations.

Full disclosure ... I just bought this to use for myself and I am not a contractor ... but I have used probes for finding pipes over four decades, so I kinda know what I'm talking about. What I like about this unit is:A. Quality is good.B. It's one piece ... don't buy the multi-piece ones ... unless you want to dig a hole to retrieve the end.C . It DOESN'T have the end piece on it ... it is a one-piece unit that is tapered. The ones with the ends are harder to retrieve out of the ground. Here is a tip for this or any probe. If you know where you are going to be probing, start dripping a hose on it a few hours before if you have the time ... then use water as you are inserting the probe into the soil. Using this method I have run my 60" probe all the way down to the handle and retrieved it with ease.I like this one ... it will be my "go to" going forward.

Works great. Easy to use and compact enough to fit in the back of a compact car.My only concern is it isn't very well insulated. If you accidentally hit a live underground power line that wasn't in conduit it would light you up. BUT, utilities should have been marked if you followed proper procedures.
