This is my first real safety helmet. Previously I used separate hearing and vision protection, and while they worked, multiple separate pieces made it possible to forget things. The helmet fit is highly adjustable, and AFAICT, replacement pieces are readily available. It's lightweight while still feeling solid. Fitting is like a high end bike helmet, and I really like the lever closure at the back of the helmet. When it's shut, the helmet stays in place without needing to use the chin strap. The cans are effective at reducing noise, and the mesh screen doesn't affect my vision at all.The helmet breathes reasonably well. There is a vent you can open/close, but I'm not sure it makes much difference in how it ventilates. All in all, it's comfortable, which means I'll use it more. Which makes it a better piece of safety gear.Yes, it's pricey, but when I looked at other systems with the same configuration, it wasn't out of line.

I love this helmet. Very sturdy and comfy. The ear muffs cancel more noise than any standard ear muffs I’ve used and I like the way they fold up into the helmet. Very well thought out design!

There are times when I need to cut limbs with my chain saws overhead for trimming. Then the wood chips would rain down on me and get into my eyes and down the neck of my shirt. However, I find myself using this arborist helmet even more for weed whacking than for chain saw use. In the fall I have about 100 feet of Hosta plants to cut down so they’ll bloom in the spring better without being smothered by the previous year’s dead foliage. While performing this task, I would get hit in the face with the foliage and wore safety glasses, but the residue would still hit me in the face and neck which could be quite painful, especially if a small rock was thrown at me. The face shield is made of some kind of plastic and provides complete facial protection. The earmuffs are very effective in reducing the engine noise and can be pulled slightly away from your ears locking them into place about a half an inch to engage in conversation when needed. I wear a 6 7/8 hat and this helmet fits me very well at its smallest setting. When the earmuffs are placed over the ears, the helmet becomes even more secured, and won’t fall off looking down from an elevated position even without using the chin strap. I found it to be overpriced, but it’s a well-fitting, good-looking design and a practical helmet.

I have had this Protos helmet for over a year and I absolutely love it. The hearing protection works well and the ability to retract them under the helmet is ideal when moving through brush when you don't want the hearing protection on. When the visor is lifted up it does not obscure your view, unlike some other helmets. I also like that all of the parts for the helmet are replaceable and a variety of accessories can be added if desired. The only downside of this helmet is that is expensive. That said, I would not hesitate to buy it again. If you appreciate a well designed helmet, you will not regret getting this.

Just got the Protos Integral Arborist Helmet delivered. Looks great out of the box, feels great and I can guarantee it will run circels around Huskvarna and Stihl helmets once adjusted. I have a Stilh Pro Mark helmet, it's a good helmet for the price, but within 6 months the right ear muff that cover the ear doesn't hold when you click ot against your head/ ear. It popps out when I bend over or move in a certain way so ear muff is useless now - OK, so for $15 I replaced it and it works fine, but the Protos is in a different league. It has variable pressure adjustments for the ear muffs, Yes, they click out away from the ear and swing back out of the way, but you can feel this lock mechanism is way more functional. Moreover, the firmer I press the ear muff against the ear the tighter it sits against the head - it's as if there is a "clutch" to vary the pressure depending on how hard I press the muff against the ear - I really like that effect. None of ther pictures I saw of the Protos showed the visor in the up position, it does flip up smooth as glass. I think you can add in integral set of flip up safety glasses inside the helmet from Protos. Here is the downside - Talk about an adjustment challenge for the straps and fit, it took me about 45 minutes to read the instructions and adjust all the straps for a perfect comfortable fit. It is not a ratched band, so if you are going to swap heads with someone, this won't be fun to adjust each time. Now that I know how to adjust all the straps and headband, I am sure would only take about 5 minutes, but first time is a long learing curv. The wratchet knob bands in Stihl and Huskvarna takes about 2 seconds to adjust, but those helmets are not Arborist or real logger climbing helmets with side crash safety. Bottom line, my wife think the helmet is sexy.
