I bought this to test the health of my A/C compressor but have found many other uses for it. So long as you understand the dangers inherent in such devices, it is easy to use. My biggest complaint is that the resistance on the 100V range tops out at ">110 M Ohms." Don't know why and this is NOT mentioned in the rather limited manual. If you want an accurate reading use one of the 3 higher voltage ranges. I would also suggest some better leads. These may be OK but I prefer more robust silicone wire leads when dealing this these voltages.

First, it is reasonably well constructed. One design issue is that the HV output can be left on, leading to safety issues. That requires attention to avoid shocksThe unit was accurate when checked against calibration grade resistors and voltmeter.What is clearly not good is that there appears to be no protection against arcing faults in the UUT. No warning, shutdown or internal circuit protection. An arcing fault at 500 Volts caused the unit to catastrophically fail. This is a typical reason for an appliance etc. to fail a HIPOT or insulation resistance test. Even at the low price of this tester, I would not expect this type of failure.

Bought this because I had an RCBO that kept tripping on the driveway lights with lots of buried wiring and many junction boxes installed by the previous owner (an electrician). My only gripe is that the carry case is a few mm too tight and you have to spend ages stuffing the unit, cables and clips in and getting the zip done up.I initially thought I must be using it wrong or that it was faulty as I was getting silly readings, nope, I had a whole series of really horrid wet junctions in the lights and junction boxes with missing seals, amazed the RCBO didn't trip earlier, less than 10kOhm between live and earth on some of the lamps. Spent ages tracing buried cables trying to figure out how it was all wired with a remote PIR and three phase cable, was able to isolate which junctions and lights were the problem with this little box, dry them out and seal them up, then test to verify they were OK. Got most of them back up to several hundred kOhm and now the breaker has stopped sulking.
