Zeroing:
Clean the surface of measuring anvil heads with a soft cloth, then rotate measuring device to make two measuring surface contact. If two zero lines of differential sleeve and fixed barrel do not alignment, use the following two methods to adjust.
Method I, if the error is less than 0.02mm (0.001"), use ratchet stop to lock screw tightly, then use wrench to pull fixed barrel till two zero lines alignment.
Method II, if the error is greater than 0.02mm (0.001 "),
Step1, use ratchet stop to lock screw tightly, then use wrench to loosen the ratchet stop and remove differential sleeve.
Step2, re-align zero lines of fixed barrel and differential sleeve, then put ratchet stop back on. If necessary, adjust it again using method I.
Note: There is no need to calibrate micrometer during common use. Micrometer only need calibration when it is severely worn.

Wow, feels like it's got sand in it, off center threads so the thimble scrapes, impossible to get a reliable reading. Don't bother.

This is an accurate, medium quality, affordable tool, just what I need for my home shop. Any one with a garage shop should get one. However I can not recommend it for a commercial shop as it does not appear to be robustly built, and needed to be taken apart and cleaned before use.

I have many Chinese made measuring instruments, and most work very well for the +/-.002 tolerances I need. I have a small run of parts where I needed to easily measure the width of a slot, so I figured this would work as a cheap and easy way to do that. I figured it shouldn't be too hard to make a decent screw and nut to consistent tolerances. I figured wrong. The lead screw is probably not concentric as the screw is tight half a turn and loose half a turn. The ratchet tip is completely useless and there's no way to get a consistent reading as there's no way to get a consistent tension on the micrometer. Going straight back to Amazon and I'll keep using my ball gauges for now.

The micrometer is awful, but the vendor did partially compensate without requiring a return to China. Fowler makes a similar product costing three times as much that should be OK, or save your money and buy a Starret or Brown & Sharp micrometer.
