So...we are studying insects in homeschool this year. Yay.... However, on the upside, I've also taken up gardening and we planted an entire bed of Zinnias. Apparently, Zinnias attract every butterfly and bee and moth within a 10 mile radius. My son wanted to start collecting these and displaying them like they did at the Museum of Natural Science. So, one bug collection kit and pinning board later, we started. I have to say this - I like how this board is built so that you can slowly and carefully stretch out the wings. So far it seems to be working well. We are just learning, so I'm sure I'm making a ton of mistakes but this kid is super happy with his collection so far. I'd say this is worth it for the budding scientist in your family.

The board itself is good quality. The pins go in easily, but they are more like sewing pins rather than pins made specifically for insects. The board is adjustable, as you can move the top pieces to better fit the body of the insect — such as if you are pinning butterflies vs. moths. The two pieces are removable if you just want to display the insects. The pins stay in and don't fall out, but I would prefer to buy a separate pin set that has numbered sizes, such as 01, 02, 03... These pins are all one size and the heads are bulky. Typical insect pins have smaller heads that don't impede the view of the insect.
