When these ants arrived, a few poor souls didn’t survive the arduous journey for which I had a respectful moment of silence. You might expect, as I did, ants would be tirelessly building tiny empires. These ants, however, seem to have rejected such expectations. They’re contemplative and serene, loiter thoughtfully, pause to ponder life’s greater mysteries, and generally resist any temptation to build a modern ant society.Taking it easy does them good. Two months later, most of them remain healthy. Perhaps there’s a lesson here for all of us.So I recommended these ants for living a care free, drama free life.

I received my ants yesterday. It may be due to the cold weather in my area, but 95% of them are dead.

Thank you!! I am a Pre-K teacher and we are studying insects right now. The ants arrived super fast and all alive. We moved them to the farm on Friday and it was a wonderful experience for the children. They couldn't stop watching how they moved. We gave them food the size of a sunflower seed as the instructions said. I don't know what will happen over the weekend when they stayed in the classroom...we'll see on Monday. It was very enriching for the group to be able to observe such large ants so closely, although they may not still be alive tomorrow. I think it was a beautiful experience.

These ants will only last a few weeks to a few months because there is no queen. Queens are not only hard to find, but expensive (over $50). I did not know this when purchasing for my son. What a disappointment! Horrible gift!!

The toys are more than half the size of the tiny container the ants come in. Only one ant survived the poor journey and I had to bring the poor guy up to health before trying to put him in the exhibit which then I released because I feel sorry for him. Inhumane practice, tried to return before it arrived but they wouldn't allow returns anyway. Pity. Poor ants, still feel somewhat sorry for the ones that died for the cruelty / inability to return my order. Not sure whether ants how ants were taken care of, probably overfed anesthetics which would answer the shaking problem customers had.

Most of the ants were alive when they arrived BUT there is no Queen so this will be an expensive and short lived experience. Son was super bummed

We bought these February 15th with mostly all surviving upon arrival (I think we had 23 live ones). It is now April 25th and we still have about 12 ants. They are dying off little by little but it’s been fascinating to watch them for as long as we have. I would recommend buying these ants. Just make sure you have a good ant farm and switch out their food every couple of days or so. Also, be sure to refrigerate them before putting them in the ant farm and move directly from the refrigerator to the ant farm. They are super fast. They were extremely thirsty at first, all crowding the water sponge in our ant farm. They seem to like all fruits and granola bars (except ones with cinnamon).Update 07/14/2024:We still have 10 live ants. Was not expecting them to survive this long. We’ve had them for 5 months tomorrow.Update 11/17/2024:We still have 5 live ants. These ants are hardy! We’ve had them for 9 months now!Update 2/16/2025We still have 3 live ants! I can’t believe it. We received them a year and a day ago! One year anniversary with these little ones. lol. I never expected them to last this long. If you have a Costco membership, I recommend feeding them the organic Aussie bites. They love them and I almost feel like perhaps that is why they keep going on.

Got an ant farm for our toddler and this looked like the seller with the best reviews for the actual ants. The harvester ants arrived in great shape, with every single one of them ALIVE. Although they were all alive, I counted a total of 42 ants, not 50. I suppose that getting 42 live ants is better than 50 dead ants, so I wasn't upset about it... but it is misleading, so I deducted a star. I'm guessing that there isn't a person actually counting the ants and it's just a rough estimate of how many fit in the tubes.I saw some video reviews that recommended using a piece of paper made in to a funnel, but that was not very helpful. The problem is that the ants stick to the paper and hold onto each other, so they don't fit out the end of the funnel. The best advice I saw was to make sure you do the ant entry process in a bath tub or box... as several will not make it through the hole and will be on the loose. (And you don't want biting ants getting free.) I put the ant farm in a large box and this was super helpful. When the ants warm up, they are pretty fast and hard to corral. If I did it again, I would have more patience and try to insert the ants one at a time, and re-chill them if it was taking too long to get them all in.The ants lasted 4 months.
