It came broken and looking at the design if I return and get another I would have to replace it soon as well. The plastic board barely slips into the clapper. I mean barely. It might be an 1/8 of an inch. If you don't hold the bottom of the slate when you clap it all falls apart. Clapping action is jerky and the screws were all loose out of the box. The magnet on the clapper sounds like a nice touch until you really don't want them to stick. I bought this for a back-up slate and I will not need a back-up for my back up haha. Im gonna throw some gorilla glue in there and see if I can't get a better snug fit. Or just A fit. Ikan makes good stuff, but clearly not slates.

Is it really that hard to put two straight, unwarped peices of wood on top of a piece of plastic? The clappers them selves are twisted and warped so the slate can't really even clap, it just kind of thuds. The plastic is "glued" into the bottom clapper at an angle. the screws were jiggling around when i first got it, I tightened them up and now realize how flimsy the metal joint is. Good thing this is just a backup to my denecke ts3el slates. I think i'll rip off the clappers from this one and make my own.

I am shooting an indie in 3 weeks and needed a low cost production slate. A few of the reviews here caused me to second guess ordering this item, but in the end, I went ahead and gave it a shot. The slate arrived today and is exactly what I expected. The clapper is nice and loud with a magnetic strip to hold it tight, it easily wipes clean and is the perfect size for my shot bag. It can also be operated 1 handed which is huge on an idie. Unlike the products others reported receiving, the wording was printed straight, the clapper was not loose, it was factory sealed and in perfect working order. One thing to note is that ikan has updated the look slightly from what you see in the Amazon photo. I knew this ahead of time after checking out their website so it was no big deal. The updates are minor, but you will want to double check their site to ensure this is truly what you need.Overall, a great product and I would definitely recommend it.

I bought this in the summer of 2010 to use on a short film with an extremely limited budget. I got mine from Adorama, and it now defaults to some other seller. I don't know if this has anything to do with the negative reviews, which seem to be the more recent ones. But the slate I received works perfectly.I give it a full five stars because it is fantastic for what it is, an affordable slate. The magnets are a wonderful feature and the sticks work just as they should. The lettering is exactly what is needed and the board wipes clean. It is all quite sturdy so I'm not sure what more you could want for 40 bucks.I will likely continue to use this product for years to come. Sure there are nicer ones out there, but they also cost many times more and I don't yet need to jam sync anything.

Hello AllAmending my review. Emailed iKan and told they how disapointed I was. They sent me a new clapper board free of charge. Great customer support, you can buy with confidence from them.I bought this Ikan clapper and as soon as I opened it up I was disappointed. The top clapper part has a bunch of chips on it. Looks like it was painted by a 5 year old. The slate part of the board is acutally printed on an angle if you can believe it. The board works fine but I would say spend the extra cash and get something that at least looks better for in front of clients.CheersGusto

Are you an Indi-Filmmaker? Or just trying to keep your video shoots organized? Everyone knows what a slate is for, but in the past costs have been so prohibitive that most Indi-Filmakers haven't gone out and bought one. This product, however, is completely affordable, works perfectly, is easily cleaned, and does the same job as a far more expensive product. In today's digital age where timecode is stamped on every shot taken by the camera itself, this simpler clapper is the best choice on the market. Seriously, this is the cheapest actual slate I've ever seen, and it works GREAT!

I wasn't sure if I should get this slate or another slate I saw on Amazon that had a magnetic clapper. Come to find out this one HAS a magnetic clapper so I was glad I didn't spend the extra money on that item when this one was a bit less expensive. The production slate is solid, works extremely well with my Foray dry-erase markers, and even had a slip of paper with it recommending dry-erase markers to use on it (Foray was one of them). Great price for this slate!.
