I installed this on my 17 gallon quarantine tank and it is very quiet and doesn’t constantly suck air like the previous model that I purchased and had to return. This one is definitely an improvement over the last one. Great job Hygger. Keep it up. Your

I was looking for a new filter to replace my loud as all hell "quiet flow" filter, and I saw this! Marvelous! The pictures and reviews would make you think this is everything you'd want in a small filter like this, except it isn't. I'm not gonna gripe too much about the instructions as I felt it was easy to assemble once you figure out what's going on (I didn't read them as they make 0 sense). I prime the filter and plug it in, BOOM, immediate disappointment. It seems that everything on the filter works as intended except it doesn't hold up to the output it promises. I expected a decent flow but was met with nothing more than a trickle. I've made sure all of the valves were wide open and there is no possible way that anything could be blocking it already as its BRAND NEW (I checked too.) The instructions seem to hold no answer as to what is causing this and can only assume this is a defective product or something they're doing isn't right

This is an excellent filter. I've used Hygger's heaters and they're awesome, too.The problem is the instructions! I want to tell you guys how to do it, but I'll have an aneurism. Seriously. Just put in the media you want (it comes preloaded with only floss, but includes ceramics) keeping at least one floss specifically in the bottom basket -- that one has to be floss. fill with water, and...I'm ashamed to admit this.Suck on the exhaust tube. The one with the flow control on it.I got fish water in my mouth, sure, but I was mad, man! I'm a 15 year mechanic and the ridiculous nomenclature and vague steps had me losing composure.Just. Make it happen. It'll be noisy for a minute or three, til all the air bleeds out of the pump, then it's silently skimming the yuck off your betta's townhouse. It has a drain valve. The flow can be aggressive or gentle. It has attachments that.. I dont know what to do with that little hose!! what is that for?! There's ZERO mention of it!You made a great product. People should run this setup. FIX YOUR INSTRUCTIONS. RUN IT THROUGH AI. I don't know JUST FIX ITOh and to potential loons looking to follow me down this rabbit hole, make sure the valve on the intake tube assembly is fully opened. at least for priming. Also!!! The drain valve has to be set to open (arrows pointing vertically*) or the pump won't work.

I wish i could give this 5stars. I this system works very well on my 30 gallon rimless, but the set up was a nightmare to put together and even harder to get the vapour locks out of. I say this because i have purchased a lot of Hygger’s equipment in the past and have never had any issues before. This filter fulls a little short on the quality that I have come to expect form Hygger and their products. The lack of instructions is another issue that I encountered with this filter, especially for any beginner new to the hobby.I do like the flexibility that comes with this filter and just how quiet this unit really runs. Which is one reason i purchased this one. I usually like to customize my filters using a lot of different types of filtering pads and even bio balls or even carbon. The power on this unit is quite strong once you get up and running. Finally I love the stainless filter for larger debris but it still falls short on the removal of the filter for cleaning..

It took forever to prime and get it going correctly but once it did (about an hour…. And I’m no rookie), it works flawlessly. My only complaint is there is a small vented attachment for the intake that doesn’t securely attach to the intake pipe. Essentially only held in place by suction force. So I initially omitted it entirely. Big mistake. At about 2 am, I heard the grinding of the motor and got up to see if there was some kind of fail and I was emptying my 30g into my floors only to find a mystery snail a bit bigger than a dime stuck in the intake line. It killed the snail. :/ after attempting a rescue and failing, I went back to bed hoping it was a fluke and I’d have the chance to prevent another incident in a few hours (when I and stores were awake). When I woke up at 5a an adult mystery snail was stuck at the foot on the intake. I let it loose and waited for the filter to begin working again, not knowing how long it had been clogging the intake and if the motor had been burned.I put a sponge filter over the intake to prevent any more accidents and after 2 days the adult mystery snail began moving around again. I thought for sure, I’d lost 2 in the first night of operation.Other than the possible Nemo disasters (easily remedied by adding a sponge filter to the intake), the filter is amazing. The design, size, and ease of cleaning alone make the purchase price amazing but it is virtually silent. Not like some aquarium equipment claims - when what they mean is compared to other obnoxious loud equipment- it is actually completely quiet…. Unless a snail gets stuck, of course. Also as a side note - my TDS from the tap (on a well) before this filter sits at 370 +/- and after an hour cycling dropped to -100!
