I have tried multiple manual gravel vacuums and this is the only one that has good suction and doesn’t leak. Two pumps and it’s flowing!!!! It will clog sometimes, but that is to be expected with the amount of waste my comet goldfish produce and any uneaten pellets. When it’s time to replace the vacuum, I will 100% be getting this same one.

This does work at siphoning the water out but not cleaning like the picture shows it doesn't circulate the rocks. I will keep it to lower the water level without stressing the fish.

Needed this for small cleanup jobs without large water changes. This is terrible. The suction would not pull uneaten food up the tube into the bucket and that was just flakes. Would not start the suction at all after the first use. Skip this for a better option if you want results.

I bought this after buying the HG-958(the air pressing button one shaped like a gun), and I'll be rating that one mentioning this model HG039-M. this one operates perfectly and has no problems with clogging like the other one. its literally just a tube and hose connected at 90 degrees and it does it's job wonderfully, the attachments are nice and useful. This transfer's well between the two 40gal and two 10gal that i have. one thing to note though is that i would keep the pump ball unattached because it clogs if attached, you really only need to hold it up to the hose and one or two compressions get the flow going and you can set the ball to the side.

Very happy with this purchase. I have a small (8gallon) tank in my bedroom. This vacuum is small, easy to handle, and it not being electric make it amazing! It's powerful and very easy to use. The storage is also great. If... if I had to pick a negative for it... it would be adding a mesh, it would be helpful to not suck up smaller gravel, otherwise highly recommend!

This is my 4th gravel vacuum, and I've finally found one that works! I have a tall 75 gal tank, so I wanted one with a long sturdy tube so my hand wouldn't have to be in the water while cleaning the gravel. The first one I tried was one you shake to get the suction going, but the valve would constantly stick and I'd be shaking and shaking and shaking (remember those shake weight commercials?) and nothing would happen. The second one was one with a little squeeze accordian pump on the top and the third was similar only it had a trigger squeeze to start the siphon. Both of those leaked by the third time I used them. Complete garbage. I was really annoyed. It shouldn't be this hard to to get a simple siphon vac! But then! THIS GRAVEL CLEANER TO THE RESCUE! It's amazing! It has powerful suction, its tube is wide enough that it doesn't take forever to clean all my gravel. One squeeze of the ball and it's going! The tube is sturdy enough that I can really sink it into the gravel and get a good clean without it bending. I even added some additional tubing on the end to make it long enough to run the dirty water right out my front door and into my plants (plants love fish poo!) and the suction was still strong, even with the added distance! It's easy to clean. It doens't get clogged. I can clean my entire gravel base in less than 15 minutes. LOVE THIS GRAVEL VAC!

I purchased this for two reasons: I wanted a better vac, and I needed a bigger vac because I have a bigger tank on the way.So I hit up Petco and looked for bigger siphons, and they're ridiculously expensive considering all they are is just a larger size of basic siphon. So I'm like, what's the market like for these? Why haven't we gotten anything better? The most common upgrade I found was ones with electric pumps on them...not what I'm after. That sounds cool, until your pump dies. I don't want any more maintenance with my siphon, my siphon's supposed to be a tool to make maintenance easier and more efficient. So with that being said, what do I look for in a siphon? Durability and quality, adaptability, convenience. And I finally found this after alot of digging through Amazon for this vac! This one kicks ass, it comes with two lengths of tube for smaller or larger tanks, clips and restrictors for the hose, drain, and fill sides so nothing's moving around during a water change, it has a large enough inlet to clean a decent chunk of substrate while still maintaining great suction, AND with the two attachments it comes with you can switch out the default inlet to get in tight to reach spaces or do larger spaces at once. It's literally checked off what I wanted in a simple, easy, versatile siphon. The ridgid tubing is also thin enough that it's not gonna be pushing plants around while I'm cleaning. One of the coolest things is the ridgidity of the hand pump part, and the valves on both ends that you can take apart for maintenance. You can tell this wasn't built to be disposable, and I plan on keeping this in the toolbox. It's also literally a fraction of the price of less featured ones you'd get in lfs or chain stores.I do 2x weekly water changes on a UNS 90L, an ADA 60p, and adding a waterbox 4820 to the mix. They're all high energy, densely planted tanks and they demand top tier maintenance and super clean substrate. If you do planted tanks you know aquasoil is super expensive and you wanna keep it around as long as possible...so if you know that I'm entrusting this siphon to vac my substrate twice a week, you should already know I vouch for it.Great product all around really, I'm glad I went for it and tried it out
