I'm finishing up an EV conversion and need to check temperatures of the cooling systems and high voltage cables. I planned to use an infrared temperature gun to do most of this, but having this clamp on sensor is a really great upgrade for me. I like that I can clamp it onto a high voltage cable or a coolant line while I am performing some of the commissioning tests and be able to log the temps during the test. This will give me a better idea of the thermal performance of the cooling systems and also be able get a much better idea of how much heat is generated in the high voltage cables. It was intuitive to set up and simple enough use in a matter of minutes.

This is perfect for me in the hvac trade. I normally use a clamp on thermometer that hooks to my voltage meter for acquiring temperatures for superheat and subcooling. This allows me to do other tasks with my voltage meter while checking temps using this. Basically, I can do more at once, making my job more efficient. It seems to be about as accurate as what I was using, so I am happy with it. I like it a lot and it is a good value for what you get.

This temp clamp is much more than a realtime temperature sensor as it is all one piece with an integrated display that shows the current temperature as well as ability to graph out the temperature curve as you are diagnosing an HVAC unit. There are only two buttons on the clamp so operation is super simple. You can change from Celsius and Fahrenheit depending on your needs in the settings. It does require three “AAA” batteries that are not included and they seem to last a long time. The display is easy to read in the shade, but direct sunlight might be slightly more difficult but other than that this is an awesome tool to have for temperature readings from a wide range of pipe diameters.

All the reviews about it being unusable are likely wrong. It uses 3 batteries, not 2. On one side, the extra battery slides further into the case where the battery connector is. It is not missing. Batteries themselves are not included. This tool is a nice alternative to a K-type and multimeter. There are no cables to get in the way. With such a little screen, you would expect it to just show temperature with some blocky letters. Impressively, it has color, good resolution, and a menu to switch between measurement, graph, and settings. The menu is navigated with the two buttons. One button moves to the next option, one selects. It is actually not as tedious to get through the menu and settings as I expected. The graph mode is interesting if you want to see temperature change over time, but of course the screen is so small that it is not really that useful to me. This is a great tool to read a line temperature very quick without dealing with pulling out cables or anything else.

First, disregard the posts that say the battery contact is missing unless they actually mention trying three batteries. The contact is up inside the handle and not visible, and rather than reading the manual or trying to see if another battery is needed, people just assume something is wrong and post an erroneous review. Now, for a performance review of a known working unit with three batteries...This has many features not found with instruments this reasonably priced; such as recording temp over time and a color display. It's easy to setup and use with only two buttons to worry about. It grips and works great for pipes and tubes; round things. In my opinion, this is where it also fails... it ONLY works on round things. I have panels and other flat surfaces on which I need to monitor temperatures. I can clamp it on, but the sensor is up in the curve of the clamp, which is where it needs to be for pipes, but there's no provision for measuring anything else. It's a nice tool and I like it, but I wish it were a bit more versatile for more applications than just pipes.

This is for "HVAC Digital Thermometer LM55 Digital Temp Clamp HVAC Thermometer High Precision Sensor Real-Time Temp Measurement for Heating&Cooling Systems -50°C~260°C Store 8 Waveform Data, Ajustable Brightness"Vendor should add a picture of three AAA batteries and how to insert them into the handle, as this process isn't obvious, and may confuse others. Works fine with regular and rechageable AAA batteries. Easy to turn on/off. On/off button doesn't have a cover. Loosely stored in a tool bag, may turn on accidently and drain the battery. Best to keep clamp in its case.Strong clamp. Takes some time for temperature measurement to settle.

This unit could be useful for servicing hot water heating systems, air conditioning, and water heaters. However, when I received it, I opened it to insert the batteries. I discovered that one of the connectors required to connect the batteries (see photo) was never installed during manufacture. As the unit cannot be powered up, it can’t be used. I cannot test this unit as it is not functional. It is not recommended.
