Using the onion keeper will reduce food waste as your partially used produce will stay fresh longer and will be recognizable in a crowded refrigerator. Meanwhile, onion odors are trapped, keeping your fridge fresh- smelling and organized. For some fun when entertaining, use these as serving pieces for burger or bagel toppings, etc. Everyone will know where to find the sliced onion rings. These reusable containers contribute to a sustainable lifestyle by cutting down on the use of wasteful disposable wraps and bags. The two sides attach by twist lock and are easy to open and close. Each is dishwasher safe, making cleanup a breeze! As always, each is BPA free.

Great invention. This onion keeper prevents your onion from drying out and also contains the onion smell inside the plastic container. I love this product and have one for red onion and another for yellow. (It helps ID the onion type in the fridge but you can use either color container with any onion.) I do recommend putting a small piece of paper towel inside on the bottom of the container and then placing your onion on top of that. The paper towel will absorb any onion juice so your onion does not get soggy on the bottom.

I swear by this product. It keeps the onion smell INSIDE the container so it does not permeate the refrigerator. Onion remains fresh for an extended period of time. Definitely recommend.

Pretty simple device. Girlfriend had one of these so I bought one. Keeps the onion smell down while stored in the refrigerator and dishwasher safe on the top rack only. The locking ramps are kinda fragile so be careful joining them together

Others have said the same thing - this is very difficult to open and close. This product is a great idea but flawed in its design. The two sections are supposed to screw together to keep the onion fresh but the threads of the "screw" are terrible and both my husband and I struggle to open and close it. Every now and then, we get lucky and we are able to open and close it easily but it is not consistent. Too bad because this would be a great product.

Works great. Keeps the smell inside the container and not in your fridge. This is actually my 2nd one of these for my onions. Do not put these in the dishwasher. It's why im ordering a new one now. My current still works, but its warped a bit and hard to do and undo.

Couldn’t open and close this cheaply made product. Do not waste your money. It lasted about a month before the plastic split, absolute rubbish

Love this! I got the Onion Saver (in Red) about 2 years ago, and it has worked great (still using it)! It's just a simple little plastic container where the top twists onto the bottom. It has a raised section in the middle of the bottom of it for the onion to rest on to keep it up out of any moisture that occurs from storing the onion in there (onions are pretty wet veggies or roots or whatever it is they are).So simple, but it works great! No odor escapes from it, it's simple, super easy to clean (you can put it in dishwasher), and definitely prolongs the life of your leftover onion so you can use the whole thing. I've stored a partial onion in there for 2 weeks with no issues whatsoever. It's pretty big, too, so you can get a nice sweet onion in there (which is what I prefer over others). My only criticism (reason for 4 instead of 5 stars) is that after a year of washes, the tops and bottoms don't quite want to fit together easily anymore and I have to work it shut and then pry it open a bit at the seam with a fingernail. Therefore, I now generally just close the two halves, but don't screw them closed. It still works just fine because the top is now such a tight fit that it doesn't need to be screwed together in order to prevent the top from coming off when I pick it up (or the bottom from falling out).Still, for such an inexpensive item, it sure is hardy and handy! Recommend!

This my favorite Hutzler, and I own 5 different models. If you cook with onions a lot, one or two of these makes life a lot easier.I have noted in other reviews that these products are not "magical" and that, while they do not defy the laws of physics, they help keep food a little fresher and they make life more convenient for the home cook.Obviously onions are a common food given they are effective in enhancing the flavor of the dominant ingredient. And of course when cooking, stronger onions are often preferred over weaker ones. This always presents a dilemma: use more onion than you want, throw away a good onion, or try to save it in the fridge and smell it all week.Enter the Hutzler Onion Saver. Now you have a container designed to keep onions, and the Onion Saver will make your life easier by:--somewhat extending the shelf life of a cut onion by elevating it from the bottom of the container (pooled liquids can expedite spoilage)--cover the onion completely and lock shut, greatly reducing the smell that could otherwise dominate your fridge (and by elevating and using a design made to filter condensation to the bottom which will not make contact with the onion, this is more practical storage than other closed containers)--makes identifying an onion an easy process in a stocked fridge due by using a container that looks like an actual onion--keeps light off of the food (this can in some cases impact tastes)--offers you a good size (not too big and not too small) that you can throw in the dishwasher safelyThe biggest part I like though is reducing the smell. The design of this container allows humidity/condensation to collect in areas that do not contact the onion (and this greatly helps preserve life/flavor) which is something a standard closed container cannot do. At such a low price, this product is completely justified given it can help save a lot more money on food over the next few years than 5 or so bucks. Finally, two other things:1) Refrigerated Onions ARE NOT TOXIC when stored correctly. The reasons fridges exist are to slow the growth of bacteria (where as a temp between 40-140 degrees F is where bacteria multiply the fastest.) Cut onions actually keep well in the fridge and when stored correctly can last for the better part of the week. This (untrue) rumor began due to cross-contamination: that is, prepping/cutting the onion with something that contained bacteria, and therefore contaminating the onion (ex: cutting raw chicken, not cleaning the knife thoroughly, and then cutting the onion, or prepping the onion on a surface that is not clean like a plastic cutting board which can harbor bacteria even after cleaning, or not washing your hands correctly after handling foods known to carry certain bacteria, such as raw poultry.) In other words, this comes from poor food hygiene, in which the onion is not culprit but is made bad from the person introducing the bacteria to it. This cross-contamination can affect almost any food (hence the importance of cleanliness and good hygiene.)2) Cutting the onion with a very sharp knife will greatly reduce watering eyes - it can also extend the storage life of the cut onion in certain circumstances (not to mention a sharp knife is much safer than a dull one).

I love this thing! At first it seemed a little pricey for a piece of plastic, but what a wonderful bit of plastic indeed! Dollars well spent. No more bags or wrapping film. Just as intended, it keeps odors and freshness inside for many days. But it’s also nice and big, fitting all cut onions but the most monstrous. The halves twist together smoothly and the outer design always lines up so you can admire its likeness to our favorite bulb.I frequently put mine on double duty with onion and tomato as roommates inside. Perhaps that is a little weird, as they certainly trade some flavor, but I cook them together so often it matters not to me. Both stay fresh! If you allow juices or other stuff into the twist-lock grooves, you may experience difficulty opening and closing. If so just give it a good cleaning and you’re back to easy usage.
