This replacement battery fixed the problem with my Garmin nuvi 56LM GPS where the original battery would no longer hold a charge. After about 10 minutes the unit would show Battery Low and soon shut off. A fully charged battery would lose change even when the unit was powered off. Rather easy fix based on several videos and descriptions of how to replace the battery I found using Google.A relatively inexpensive fix to bring the GPS back to the way it worked when new. Fit right where the original battery was. Piece of double back sticky tape held it in place. Since the nuvi 56LM provides all the functionality that I need, especially establishing routes, I was glad to be able to fix the unit for little expenditure.

My OEM battery was worn out. Wouldn't last 5 minutes unplugged. This does last right about 2 hours now like it originally did. Similar models have cheaper batteries that last 3+ hours. But this was a good fix even though the battery was $16, it gave me back power. Now if I can only get this thing to stop losing satellite reception, it will still be mostly useless.UPDATE: Doesn't last. Factory battery lasted several years. This "high quality cells" replacement I installed in May and before mid September it was dying 5 minutes after disconnecting power. I live in PNW area and even though it is plugged in most of the time, I do cycle the battery a few times a month. The first couple months it would be on and charged and left plugged in for 90 minutes to the ferry terminals. Then park on the ferry and turn off the vehicle and tell it to stay on. The first couple months it lasted on the shorter ferry rides up to an hour with no issues. 2 months later - it is dying on a 30 minute ferry ride before we reach the other dock and turn the vehicle back on to charge it. 4 months after buying it - it will die almost immediately without a charging supply hooked up. About the same point where I chose to replace the factory battery. I have had a lot of Li-on batteries, and this does not behave like Li-on and definitely NOT "high quality cells". It does work and I can use or turn on my Nuvi 52lm....... but without external power it didn't make it a couple months before it was dying. 4 months later it has been just short of useless..... again. Looking for a truly decent quality battery next. Lost money on this gamble.

A very easy replacement, the Garmin has very small torque screws requiring a special tiny torque screw drive. Remove 4 screws and use a small plastic prybar or guitar pick to snap open the case one snap at a time traveling around the screen. Then flip up the screen not damaging the ribbon cord and unplug old battery and plug in new battery. The battery is held in place with double sided tape, I used 3m extreme adhesive from the auto parts store. Snap together reinstall 4 torque screw lightly snug and that’s it, easy as can be.

I’d been putting on hold doing a repair on my garmin 52M drive due to all the world events and I finally got around to it, I wasn’t positive about if this battery would work but it definitely worked and even with the battery stored on a shelve for 6+ months it still had a full charge when I booted up the garmin, (side note I purchased the gps in the late summer of 2019 and it stopped working in the summer of 2020, the garmin brand battery was dated 3/11/19 so it did not last very long at all!) TIPS for replacement on Garmin 52M drive. Some tips may still apply to other Garmin gps, cannot guarantee! 1. use correct star bit for screws 2. Carefully wedge something (preferably a plastic trim or electrics tool) in the gap between the backing and the screen side of the gps to pop the plastic tabs apart. 3. CAREFULLY open the gps and lay it down as the electronic tape inside keeps the screen connected to chip. 4. Carefully detach the battery from the chip and remove the battery.5. (Note- the battery I received had the cables coming out of the corner with the hard heat tape plastic coming over the side which made it a little more delicate to put the battery in the tray and connect it) based on my repair and assuming the batteries come exactly the same, connect your battery FIRST than turn the battery over whichever way will allow enough wire slack to CAREFULLY position the battery in the holder area.6. Carefully bring the front and back together but don’t snap it together yet, confirm it turns on and works to avoid a extra tear down for nothing, if it’s working than put it back together and enjoy! If not than return or keep the battery.Hope this helps, if not try YouTube!

Like: Adequate replacement for the original battery.Dislike: The YouTube video instructions for replacing the battery in a Garmin 52LM GPS tell you to disconnect the ribbon cable that connects the screen to the mother board. The cable is easy to disconnect but nearly impossible to re-connect. It is held in place by a flimsy plastic latch. Poor design and quality by Garmin. I spent nearly an hour trying to reconnect the cable and finally gave up in frustration. I gave the unit to my brother-in-law who does this sort of thing for a living and he was able to reconnect the cable with much difficulty.Actually, you can replace the battery without removing the ribbon cable from the mother board, but it is not easy. You might need 3 hands. The replacement battery costs $10-$30, depending on where you buy it. You can buy the GPS for $89 brand new. Is it really worth the frustration?
