We placed landscape material at the base of our newly built fence, we used a light stain to accent the natural beauty of the wood. We didn't want the dirt and rain to splatter up onto the wood and wreck it's beauty so we used those staples to secure the material, they are strong and easily placed with a hammer. Worked great.
