These are great little hooks for small items. I needed tiny wire S-hooks to go through the holes in my crystals to hang on a chandelier but couldn't find any, so settled for these. But these hooks wouldn't work for that, so I had to use them with split rings, which are notoriously weak and will open up and allow the crystal to fall. These hooks are strong, however and great if they are what you need. I will continue my search for the S-hooks.

I tried to make do with any pieces I had that with hooks already attached and then make my own with some wire, snips, and a disregard for dermis on on my fingers. It is a better option to purchase these and be kind to your digits. These are also stronger than wire it seems, and withstand the weight of crystals better.
