  • WORKS WITH ALL Z-WAVE DEVICES: SmartStick G8 can control both standard Z-Wave devices (mesh network) and Long Range (LR) devices at the same time. You can mix and manage both types of devices in your home as long as you're using compatible software like HomeSeer or Home Assistant.
  • INCREDIBLE LONG RANGE CAPABILITY: SmartStick G8 supports the latest 800 Series Z-Wave Long Range technology, offering wireless coverage of up to 1 mile. To use this feature, you'll need LR-compatible software and hubs, like Z-Wave JS UI v9.10.0 (or later) paired with HomeSeer or Home Assistant. Note: Your devices also need to support Z-Wave LR and be added as LR devices.
  • EASY UPGRADE FROM OLDER CONTROLLERS: If you're upgrading from a previous Z-Wave controller (500, 700, or 800 series), SmartStick G8 makes it easy to migrate your Z-Wave network. Just use Z-Wave JS UI v9.9.0 (or later) for the migration. This feature works with HomeSeer and Home Assistant. Important: Don't use other methods (like PC Controller) for migration—they could make the stick unusable.
  • FUTURE-PROOF WITH FIRMWARE UPDATES: SmartStick G8 comes with the latest Z-Wave firmware (version ZDK 7.22.2 as of 10/25/24) installed. You can update it as new versions are released, so it stays up-to-date with the latest technology.

SmartStick G8 is a USB stick that connects to smart home software like HomeSeer, Home Assistant, and other Z-Wave compatible systems. It has an extended wireless range (up to 1.5 miles for Z-Wave Long Range systems) and stronger security than older models. You can also use it with HomeSeer Z-NETs for managing multiple networks from one place.

The Home Assistant Green appliance does not have USB 3.0 ports. These ports interfere with Z-Wave devices. If you happen to have a host with only USB 2.0 ports, feel free to directly connect this to it without worrying about interference from USB 3.0 ports. It works great with Home Assistant via Z-Wave JS UI. Paired with my first and only Z-Wave devices, a Yale Assurance Lock 2 very easily.

I added the stick to a Home Assistant Green (via HomeSeer integration). Default Z-Wave frequency of this stick is 908 MHz (= region USA). In Europe, Z-Wave is 868 MHz based. In the specification of the stick is written:"Supports all regions (changeable in software), default setting is 908 MHz".This can see seen in log, too:"2024-09-15T14:51:17.259Z CNTRLR Querying configured RF region... 2024-09-15T14:51:17.287Z CNTRLR The controller is using RF region USA (Long Range)"How can I change this RF region to add my european Z-Wave devices?----Update: With support of community of Home Assistant I could solve the problem where to change the region to Europe: I installed the Add-On "Z-Wave JS UI" (in addition to "Z-Wave JS" integration) in HA and there is a configuration field for RF region.

Added this to my Home Assistant Yellow box to add Z-Wave. Good range, 800 series, so robust for the future. Plug and play in Home Assistant.

I had previously purchased a Zooz 800 stick and had problems with it, so I was a little reluctant to get another 800. I was very happy when this one just worked. I didn't need to bring it close to the edge devices or any other weird Z-Wave tactics to get everything recognized. I fully recommend this.

I am testing Home Assistant and exploring what it can do. I easily added Zwave devices using this as the hub.

Had a Aeotec Z-stick previously, and could not for the life of me get a healthy network: first hop needed to be line-of-sight, smartstart inclusion never worked, some devices would randomly drop out. After months of thinking it was something I did, I tried swapping controllers to this one, and all those problems went away!!Has no issues with NVM backup (but have not tried restore). Might require a USB extension to keep interference from the computer low (common for these sticks). Very happy overall
